The Pawsome Print
February 10, 2023
March 31, 2023
Dear Pawsome Families,
We started MCAS this week in 5th grade. The students worked so hard and truly showed best effort. Next week we will have our 4th graders taking MCAS. Thanks to all of your support as we encourage best effort with testing. We do not want to add extra worry or stress to our students but instead want to just remind them that we are all proud when they try and show their best effort with everything they do!
SMILE
If your child was recommended for SMILE, you should have received a flier with further information and a pre-registration link. Please review the information and complete the pre-registration form, even if it is to say that you are not interested in having your student attend the program. We want to firm up our enrollment so that families can in turn firm up their summer plans. If you have any questions about the program or your child's eligibility, please contact smile@sudbury.k12.ma.us

Planning for next school year!
It is mind blowing that we are already planning for the next school year. As a reminder, last week my parent placement input form was sent to parents. Parents frequently acknowledge how well our teachers know their children. However, you may believe there is information that may be helpful for us to know in placing your child. To that end, if you would like to share input related to placement, please complete the accompanying “Loring Placement Parent Input Form” provided to you via Google Form. As part of the placement process, the placement team will review any information you share. If you choose to provide us information, please complete this form by Thursday, April 6, 2023. Please also be aware that teachers, in the course of the placement process, will have access to parent input. If you do wish to provide input, we ask that you do so in the way described above. Requests for a specific teacher will not be accepted. You may indicate if one of your children has already had a specific teacher and you wish for the sibling to have a different experience. Similarly, given the complexity and multi-faceted nature of the class placement process, we cannot accept requests for friends to be placed together. Finally, please be aware that, for all the reasons described, changes to placement, once it is complete, are rarely, if ever, made.
If you are not planning to return to Loring next school year please email this information to the Loring office as soon as possible.
Lunch & Recess Volunteers
I know we sound like a broken record but each week it is getting harder and harder to fill volunteer spots. If you have able and willing local grandparents we encourage them to join us at lunch and recess along with Loring parents. We promise it is a fun hour spent with your child and their peers and it means so much to our teachers. We are looking for 2 volunteers per grade on Tuesdays and Fridays. Dates and times are listed in the signup genius on the volunteer page of the PTO Website. If you are not able to stay for lunch, please state that in the notes.
To SIGN UP, please click here. Please click MORE for additional details.
If you have any questions, please email Kerri Brien at kerriapatrician@gmail.com.
Smart Device Reminder
We have noticed some students, mostly third-fifth graders, coming to school with smart watches that enable texting and/or voice calls. We wanted to be sure everyone knows that cell phones and smart watches are not allowed to be used during the school day. If students elect to bring cell phones or other devices like smart watches to school, they must keep them off and in their backpacks during the school day. This is the same expectation that is in place at Curtis Middle School as well.
If you need to contact your child during the school day, please call or email the main office and we will relay any important messages.
Thank you for your support and understanding. We want all students to focus on their learning and their social connections rather than be distracted by their devices. If you have any questions, please reach out to me or your child’s teacher.
