PLEASE TAKE OUR CUSTOMER SATISFACTION SURVEY

Every year Northland Career Center utilizes a Customer Satisfaction Survey to evaluate how effectively NCC communicates, prepares students and meets the needs of Kansas City Northland communities. Your response will make a difference by allowing us to discern the areas in which we need to improve and implement change. This survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete. NCC Graduation Changes - We Need Your Help!

NCC Parents,

You should have received a letter from NCC Director Brian Noller on January 12th, outlining date and location changes to our graduation and introducing you to the concept of Signing Day.

Signing Day is a concept that we are adding to our graduation day on Saturday, May 18th. Students who have made a decision to sign with a related career business, a post-secondary institution, or a branch of the military would be recognized at the end of ceremony.

NCC would invite individuals from these organizations to be at our graduation to support the students and then participate in a ceremonial signing at a table where students can be captured with a picture with parents and members from this organization.

We are very excited about this change and need your help encouraging your son/daughter to be proactive in planning for college or career. Students do not have to engage in this event at the end of our ceremony, but it is an opportunity to celebrate the next steps of the journey and for you to engage with the company, college, or military representative.

Please let us know if you have any questions about graduation or about the Signing Day concept.

Thank you!

Inclement Weather - Make up days

Please note that NCC follows the schedule of the Platte County School District including school closures. If the Platte County School District closes due to poor road conditions, excessive snow, or frigid temperatures, NCC will not be in session. Click here to read more.

Please note that final decisions on make up days for our NCC calendar will not be made until later this semester. Currently we have missed nine school days at NCC.

Staff Feature: Ms. Teresa Sherley

Northland Career Center has an amazing staff. Each month we feature one staff member that is doing amazing things to support staff and students achieve our mission.

This month we feature Ms. Teresa Sherley, Northland Career Center Career Services Coordinator.

Ms. Sherley started at NCC in 2002 as the director's secretary. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Kansas State University. In 2007, her position changed to Career Services Coordinator.

Her main responsibilities are to ensure that Northland Career Center meets all state and federal accountability requirements by maintaining accuracy and integrity of the information in the student management system and preparing data for DESE.

Her position also includes coordination and planning for student success by assisting with mock interviews, hosting college and career fairs, organizing work-based learning experiences and sustaining relationships with employers, post-secondary educational institutions and military personnel.

"Even though my position hasn’t changed drastically in the last 16 years, the experiences are different every year with new students, staff, technology, and administration," Ms. Sherley said.

Ms. Sherley has also been a SkillsUSA advisor for the past five years. Being an advisor is a huge time commitment that involves a lot of coordinating and planning but it's worth it in the end, she said, because she has witnessed the benefits of student involvement in Career and Technical School Organizations (CTSO).

In her spare time, Ms. Sherley enjoys traveling, sometimes as a passenger on a motorcycle, but her ideal vacation is somewhere on any beach and she already has plans for retirement somewhere on a beach.
