Reading Resources
Digital Options
These are some of the options we have for online reading and audiobooks. Many of them offer a read to me feature where the words are highlighted as they are read aloud, and many other come in Spanish. Click on the image to go to the website and if you need help setting of them up or would like more info, I'm happy to help!
Sora
Sora is a service offered by the public library and you'll see the Sora icon in your launchpad. When you open it, it'll log you in as a RHSD person and give you access to ebooks and audiobooks, but if you add your public library card, you'll have significantly more to choose from. You'll need a library card number, but the library is offering ecards on their website at https://sclends.lib.sc.us/eg/opac/register_ycl All students need to sign up is an email address.
Epic!
Epic is an online ebook provider that is offering free classroom accounts through this summer. Students can access epic for free until 4pm daily, and they were allowing 2 hours on the weekend, but the website isn't clear whether that's still happening. Parents can sign up for home use for unlimited time and access to a lot more books for about $7/month. If you don't have it on your launchpad, you can add it from the district app library.
Pinna
Pinna is a podcast provider that offers age appropriate short podcasts for kids ages 3-12. They offer a 6mo free trial. This can also be added to your launchpad and was a recommendation by Ms Williams. It looks like a great resource for engaging your students and sparking their imaginations.
Destiny Discover
This is our library catalog here at school and is a good resource for nonfiction and some popular titles. Students can access it through launchpad and see all of our titles under ebooks.
The York County Public Library
Speaking of libraries, the YCPL has really stepped up to meet the challenge of distance learning and of serving the community with closed buildings. You can find more information about the following at https://www.yclibrary.org/.
