Alief ISD Spotlights, Communications and Announcements
Artwork by Elsik High School students were selected for the 2023 National K-12 Ceramic Exhibition.
Artwork by Clara Centino and Serenity Grover were selected for this national exhibition this spring in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Congratulations to Alief ISD's Science and Engineering Fair of Houston winners!
Place Award Winners:
- Olle Middle School student Alice Medina Avila won second place in the junior division of the Physics and Astronomy category. She advanced to the Texas Science and Engineering Fair that will be held at Texas A&M University in late March and will also compete in the Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge Competitions.
- Killough Middle School student Samanta Bonilla received an honorable mention in the junior division of the Chemistry category.
- Elsik Ninth Grade Center student Gabriel Agaegbu won first place in the American Industrial Hygiene Association - Gulf Coast Award. The award honors excellence in the sciences.
- Alief Early College High School student Thu Nguyen placed in the senior division for the Jacobs Science Explorer Award. The award is for project excellence in pushing the envelope of innovation and new technological horizons. All winners will receive a signed certificate and a book written and autographed by a NASA astronaut.
- Alief Middle School student Nguyen Thoa (second place junior division) and Alief Early College High School students Tiffany Fang (first place senior division), Jamelle Mariano (third place senior division) and Henry Mai (honorable mention senior division) were recognized in the UH STEM Center Science Poster Contest. This contest encourages students to think about science and engineering in an artistic way and to create imaginative interpretations of the substance of science and engineering.
Regional Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE) Results
Alief ISD high School art students earned 171 regional medals, with 14 pieces advancing to the state VASE competition in April. Congratulations to the students who advanced to state:
- Elsik: Mary Calderon, Michael Caxaj, Clara Centino (2 pieces), Dream Gibson, Alejandro Gomez, Gabriel Martinez, Ashley Nguyen, Immanuela Oko, Sameemar Aye and Kimberly Valencia
- Hastings: Mikayla Johnson
- Taylor: Sofia Gomez and Julisa Toledo-Betancourt
UIL High School Performing Arts Regional Solo and Ensemble Results
Band Program Results:
- Elsik: 32 Superior Solos, 1 Superior Ensemble, and 3 Solos and 1 Ensemble advanced to state
- Hastings: 2 Superior Solos, 1 Superior Ensemble, and 2 Solos and 1 Ensemble advanced to state
- Kerr: 7 Superior Solos, 4 Superior Ensembles, and 2 Solos and 3 Ensembles advanced to state
- Taylor: 4 Superior Solos and 1 Solo advanced to state
Choir Program Results:
- Elsik: Three students received Superior Ratings, and one advanced to state.
- Hastings: Six students received Superior Ratings, and one advanced to state.
- Kerr: Kerr students brought home 20 Superior Ratings, 15 state-qualifying solos, and one state-qualifying ensemble.
- Taylor: Out of the 14 students who received Superior Ratings, nine students qualified for state competitions.
Orchestra/Guitar Program Results:
- Elsik: 19 Superior Solos, 3 Superior Ensembles, and 4 solos and 1 ensemble advanced to state
- Hastings: 11 Superior Solos, 2 Superior Ensembles, and 3 solos and 2 ensembles advanced to state
- Kerr: 40 Superior Solos, 6 Superior Ensembles, and 3 solos and 1 ensemble advanced to state
- Taylor: 18 Superior Solos and 1 solo advanced to state
Congratulations to the Alief ISD high school basketball teams for a successful season!
The Hastings and Taylor High School girls' teams advanced to bi-district playoffs, and Hastings advanced to area playoffs.
The Taylor High School boys' team advanced to bi-district playoffs.
