Oley Valley Middle School News
STEM Program at the Middle School
To celebrate National Engineering Week, the 7th grade class had a busy day learning about future career opportunities in the field of technology. The day began with a trip to the Reading IMAX theater where the students enjoyed a documentary called, "Dream Big.....Engineering Our World". This film showed how young people have made a positive impact on the world through the field of engineering. Next, they visited the Schmidt Technology and Training Center at the Reading Area Community College. There, our students toured the labs of a world-class technology and engineering training center that supports local students as well as training needs for companies around the world. Lastly, the students toured the massive A4 plant at East Penn Manufacturing (Deka) where the students got a close-up view of how batteries are manufactured.

Two talented young ladies!
Ava Sauppee and Aly McGee worked together on an assignment called The European Travel Project. They picked any country in Europe and planned an imaginary trip using Google Tour Builder. These girls felt like planning this trip was the closest thing they have had to hanging out together in a while.

Education Foundation Names New Director
By Michelle Lynch, Reading Eagle
Cinamon Kopicki has been named director of the Oley Valley Community Education Foundation, the foundation announced last week.
Kopicki previously served multiple roles in various nonprofits and as a small-business owner.
A resident of the Oley Valley for more than 26 years, she has been active in the school district as a parent and volunteer, most recently as treasurer for the Oley Valley Music Association.
“Cinamon’s skills will be a great asset to OVCEF,” Thomas Kauffman, president of the organization’s board of trustees, said in the news release. “She knows the community, and she embodies the mission of the Community Education Foundation.”
Joanne Ewing, the foundation’s current executive director, will retire at the end of June. She will work closely with Kopicki to transition responsibilities.
“OVCEF would like to express its gratitude to Joanne for her 13 years of exceptional leadership and service to the foundation.” Kauffman said.
The nonprofit was formed in 1996 as a link between the community, area business and the Oley Valley School District.
It’s administered by an independent board of community volunteers and channels private donations and support into programs for residents and students.
