Math Recovery
A Year of Small Steps - Weeks 22-24
Planning Math Recovery Lessons & Intervention Time
If you have 30 minutes, set aside 3-5 minutes for number recognition and forward/backward number word sequences. The rest of the time should be evenly split between Addition/Subtraction (Counting) and Structuring Numbers. There are two lesson planning Google docs in our instructional activities folder on the miPLACE Google Drive, one for emergent math learners and one for perceptual. The activities are gathered from the purple and green books and will give you a quick peek at a variety of instructional tasks to try with your students. Remember, the "constructs live in instruction" and you are always striving to teach just "beyond the cutting edge." Give yourself space to practice as a teacher and know that we are here for you.
If you would like to schedule a quick phone call or video conference to plan your next intervention lesson or to chat about a particular student, Mondays from 8am-noon or 4pm - 8pm are the easiest day to connect for 10 - 15 minutes. Just email me a date and time to confirm. If you've developed a great way to plan your MR lessons or created a handy tool, please share it with with us! We are always better together.
Counting Sequences
Check out The Numeracy Continuum for an interactive guide explaining the different levels for NID, FNWS, and BNWS. The guide has great basic information along with short video examples and can be shared with teachers, paras, and building staff who haven't been able to get trained yet. All of the guides feature Dr. Wright's research and support the MR approach.

Shawna has a link with open time slots for building and classroom visits. Once you sign up for a time slot, you will receive confirmation email and request for a little information about your priorities for the time together: individual students, whole/small group instruction, targeted intervention, data & assessment, or "name your own" focus. You can call her at 248-209-2051.
