This week we talked about writing friendly letters. We learned about the different parts of a letter. We talked about the heading, the greeting, the body, and the closing. The kids have enjoyed applying this skill in the writing center. We started creating an address book so that we can write letters to each other.

We read:

  • Yours Truly, Goldilocks
  • Click Clack Moo, Cows That Type
  • Dear Mr. Blueberry
  • The Jolly Postman
  • I Wanna New Room

This week we had a long discussion about the animals we wanted to learn about on the farm. The children decided we needed to learn about lots of animals. The each signed up for an animal to become an expert on. They choose pigs, chickens, sheep, cows, and ducks. Right now the chicken and sheep groups have been researching and teaching us about them. We have learned lots about sheep, for example they can see almost all the way around without moving their head and they have four parts to their stomach. The chicken group has learned all about eggs and how they form. After spring break we will be hatching chickens in our classroom! We are so excited about this adventure!

  • Thank you so much to everyone who donated to our incubator! We have already gotten our project completely funded!!! The children are very excited about this opportunity!
  • I am sure you have heard about our 'take apart' center. The children have learned so much by taking apart old printers, cell phones, and calculators. If you have any old electronics, we would be happy to take them off your hands :)
