Principal's Message
A New Month A New Semester A New Year
Welcome to the 'halfway point' of the school year! February 1st marks the start of semester 2 for our secondary students and the Lunar New Year ushers in the year of the tiger. We continue to follow the same health and safety guidelines within the school and appreciate our school community's patience and understanding.
Congratulations to Mrs. Donnelly and her partner - on Thursday, January 20 we welcomed our newest Rossland Summit School community member, baby Jordan Donnelly! We are all looking forward to seeing baby Jordan soon.
Reminder that we have new daily health check guidelines that include steps to follow when students/ family members are feeling ill or have been diagnosed with COVID-19. The document can be FOUND HERE.

VISAC Art Gallery and Arts Centre
A message from Lana, Executive Director at the VISAC Art Gallery and Arts Centre in Trail.
As a Non-Profit Charity, part of our mandate is to support the youth in our area through the arts with a diverse range of classes, workshops and programs.
We have ongoing classes that we plan throughout the year, so if these dates may not work for families, we will surely have another upcoming program that will.
Please find our current below. We are committed to keeping everyone safe during these trying times, and have a strict COVID protocol in place, including social distancing for all our students.
If you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to contact us.
Best Wishes,
Lana and the VISAC Team

RSS Library Home to Growing Salmon Fry
The fish in school (FinS) program is run by The Okanagan Nation Alliance and began in 2009. One of the mandates is to protect, enhance, conserve, and continue to restore our future salmon. Students become stewards of their environment. We will be receiving 100 "eyed" Sockeye salmon eggs to raise into alevins and then into "free feeding" fry. Students will gain firsthand knowledge of the Sockeye salmon life cycle, while also learning about the impacts of damns on the Columbia River and Indigenous perspectives and knowledge. The fish tank is housed in the library so that all students will have an opportunity to engage . Students' wonderings and insights will drive the focus of the inquiry learning. The salmon will be released into the Columbia River mid-June in a ceremonial fry release.
FINANCIAL SUPPORT
At RSS, we believe that no student will be denied access to programs, services or educational opportunities provided by the school because of financial need. Parents, caregivers or families needing school related financial aid (school/District fees, field-trips, school supplies, etc.) are asked to contact the Principal to make arrangements so that ALL our students have equal access to all the educational opportunities offered.
MEALS PROGRAM
RSS will continue to provide nutritious lunches for students in need through the School Meals Program. Parents who wish their child to take part in this program can contact the Principal [rss@sd20.bc.ca].
HEALTHY SNACKS
While ‘treats’ are nice, it is important to send healthy foods and drinks to school. For PE and regular water hydration, due to COVID-19, our water fountains are turned off. We do have bottle filling stations and encourage all students to have a re-fillable bottle.
Metal or 'Eco' friendly plastic bottles are preferred for safety considerations.
Thank you for your cooperation with this.

Bussing & Accessibility Zones - Drop Off and Pickup
Request to Parent/ Caregivers and Visitors
Our main entrance is a busy space before and after school. Busses are on a tight timeline to ensure they are meeting kids along their routes.
PLEASE DO NOT PARK in front of the school to drop off and pickup students, ESPECIALLY in the handicap accessible parking spot. A few car lengths down the street is super helpful!
Thanks for this!
Safe Arrival School Messenger

Thanks for using SafeArrival School Messenger!
