SCIENCE WEEK IN REVIEW FOR 2023
Science Week proved to be a busy one for the science faculty. Each class in year 7 to 10 got the opportunity to participate in an Escape Challenge during their science lessons. Students had to solve a series of challenges to find 8 code words. The groups who were able to solve the most number of correct codes won a prize. Some of the challenges included making elephants toothpaste, splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen gases, finding the percentage mass of hydrogen in the universe, plus lots more.
The colouring-in competition turned out to be very popular. We had students from year 7 through to 12 submitting some amazing pieces of work. These have been submitted to Stile for an opportunity to win Airpods (results to come), but they were also judged by the science teachers with some awesome prizes supplied by the Science department. The following winners are to be congratulated: Rhianna Versola, Massimo Mesiti, Charissa Robertson and Jorden Galea. Thank you to all students who submitted an entry. It was certainly a tough decision choosing the winners.
The Kahoot challenge was held in all the STRIVE classes. The questions were based around the theme of Science Week which was all about Innovation. The winning classes were 7.2, 8.8, 9.4, 10.8, 11 Polding and 12 Mackillop. Congratulations to all involved.
YEAR 11 DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY - UNIT 2
URBAN FURNITURE DESIGN
This term Year 11 completed a Minor Design Project in preparation for the Major Design Project which starts Term 4 this year. Year 11 were tasked with the brief to:
"Design, produce and evaluate a design and scaled model for an urban space to be added to the surrounding area at Curry Reserve, Elderslie. The design must be inclusive, sustainable, safe and affordable. The design must meet the needs of the community and people using the space now and in the future. Aim to create an urban space measuring no larger than 225 sqm (15m by 15m)"
After conducting preliminary research with a field observation to the site, Year 11 got designing and making in order to solve the problem.
The work produced from this task has been truly amazing. Year 11 should be very proud of their great work in terms of portfolio and scaled model presentations.
We look forward to seeing what design problems students find for their Major Design Projects commencing next term.
