Keller ISD School Calendar and Attendance

Attendance is very important for your child's success. Please review the attached calendar prior to making vacation plans to ensure your student takes full advantage of learning opportunities.

Thank you for ensuring our students are ready for instruction every day. Please remember students need to be in the classroom by 7:55 a.m. If students are tardy, please walk your student to the office.

The Texas Education Code, Section 25.085, states that a child is required to attend school each school day for the entire period the program of instruction is provided, unless exempted by law. A student is in violation of truancy when the student is absent when a student is absent three or more days, or parts of days, within a four-week period. If a student is in violation of truancy, the parent/guardian may be subject to criminal prosecution, and the student is subject to referral to a truancy court for truant conduct. Keller ISD will enforce the Texas compulsory attendance laws.

Watch D.O.G.S.

Hello Dads!!!!! I would like to invite you to become a part of our Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) program here at North Riverside!!!!! If you are interested in volunteering, you will first need to complete an application for a background check: https://www.kellerisd.net/Page/244. You will not be allowed on campus as a WatchDOG dad until your background check has been approved. Once your background check has been approved, you can sign up for the day(s) that best fit your schedule by following this link: https://signup.com/go/UHrABLC. Here are some answers to a few common questions:

What is WATCH D.O.G.S.® (Dads Of Great Students)?

WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads Of Great Students) is an innovative father involvement, educational initiative of the National Center for Fathering.

What are the goals of a WATCH D.O.G.S. program?

1) To provide positive male role models for the students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important.

2) To provide extra sets of eyes and ears to enhance school security and reduce bullying.

Who are Watch D.O.G.S. and how does WATCH D.O.G.S. work?

WatchDOGS are fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and other father-figures who volunteer for at least one day each year at an official WATCH D.O.G.S. school.

WATCH D.O.G.S., a K-12 program, invites fathers, grandfathers, uncles, or other father figures to volunteer at least one day all day at their child’s/student’s school during the school year. WatchDOG dads and volunteers perform a variety of tasks during their volunteer day including monitoring the school entrance, assisting with unloading and loading of buses and cars, monitoring the lunch room, or helping in the classroom with a teacher’s guidance by working with small groups of students on homework, flashcards, or spelling.

What do WatchDOGS do (while they are at school)?

During the day, WatchDOGS may read and work on flash cards with students, play at recess, eat lunch with students, patrol the school entrances and hallways, assist with traffic flow and any other assigned activities where they actively engage with not only their own students, but other students as well.

Many school principals have reported that the mere presence of a WatchDOG dad dramatically reduces reports of bullying. On the day of their participation, WatchDOG dads are given a brief review of their involvement for the day.

Severe Weather Dismissal

If lightning or other adverse conditions are present, all outdoor activities cease, including the loading of buses and the release of students. If our campus initiates a “Severe Weather Dismissal,” all students are held in their homeroom class except those whose parents have signed a severe weather waiver. Throughout the duration of the weather event, non-waiver students remain in their homeroom class unless a parent enters the building, presents appropriate identification, and physically escorts him/her out of the building. Once the severe weather subsides, students will once again be allowed to exit the building. If you are interested in more information about Keller ISD’s severe weather policy, please visit this link https://www.kellerisd.net/severeweather.

Food Allergies

Some students at North Riverside have some food allergies. One of the most frequent allergens come from peanuts. Please be mindful of these reactions when packing your child's lunch or snack every day for the safety of all students. To maintain the safest environment we ask that all students and adults wash their hands with soap and water after lunch.
