The Conference Programme Includes Two Professional Workshops
From Research Paper to Journal Manuscript
Facilitator: Marina M. Ramkissoon, Ph.D.
The purpose of the workshop is to provide guidance to new or potential authors for converting their psychology-related graduate research papers and theses into journal manuscripts for review by academic journals. A major goal is to encourage these authors to publish their work by improving their skills in writing such manuscripts.
Psychohairapy: Integrating Hair, Health, and Heritage for Caribbean Women
Facilitator: Afiya M. Mbilishaka, Ph.D.
This workshop is focused on exploring “PsychoHairapy,” an innovative and culturally relevant approach to providing psychological support and services to Caribbean women through hair care and the hair salon environment.

Workshop Facilitators
Marina W. Ramkissoon, Ph.D.
Dr. Marina Ramkissoon is a Lecturer in the Psychology Unit of the Department of Sociology, Psychology and Social Work, at the University of the West Indies Mona Campus. She has been a Co-Chief Editor of the Caribbean Journal of Psychology since 2005. Her publications include book chapters and journal articles. She has also received teaching awards from the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning.
Afiya M. Mbilishaka, Ph.D.
Dr. Afiya Mbilishaka is a therapist, as well as an educator and researcher at the University of the District of Columbia who graduated from the University of Pennsylvania & Howard University, and earned a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. Dr. Mbilishaka also has an emerging program of practice and research entitled, "psychohairapy," where she uses hair as an entry point for mental health services in beauty salons and barbershops, as well as through social media.
