Create PDFs From Almost Any App With iOS

With iOS 11 you can export documents from many different apps as PDFs using the Share function. Other apps have special save or export functions for PDF creation. But any app that can print can also create a PDF using a hidden feature in the AirPrint function.

How to Add Folders to Favorites List in Files for iOS

The Files app on iPhone and iPad is a bit like a light version of Finder on Mac, offering direct access to files and folders in iOS 11. If you find yourself accessing a particular folder often within Files app, you can make it quicker to access by adding it to your Favorites list. Once an item is added to the Favorite list of iOS Files app, it will be visible in the Favorites section of the app, or the sidebar for iPad users when Files app is in horizontal mode.

How to Scan QR Codes with iPhone or iPad in iOS 11

  1. Open the Camera app on the iPhone or iPad, or swipe to open Camera from the device lock screen
  2. Point the camera viewfinder at the QR code you wish to scan

  3. Hold the camera steady for a moment until a little notification pops up on the top of the screen demonstrating the action of the scanned QR code, and tap on that notification to perform the action (visit a website, app store, etc)

Note you do not need to press the capture or shutter button, just pointing the camera and holding it steady at the QR code is sufficient to read it with iPhone or iPad.

In the example here, a QR code is used to direct the QR code scanner to a website (, and thus tapping on the notification at the top of the screen will open the website in Safari on the iPhone or iPad.

Try it out yourself, it’s very simple.

Tool for simple video editing

Richard Byrne of Free Tech for teachers shared this resource and How-to video. , and I have to say I agree, I loved Animoto 10 years ago and pretty much until the last few years, but now there are other tools and I kinda drifted away from it. TYPITO is one of them. It is not an app, it is web-based.

TYPITO gives you options to control the length of time each image in your video is displayed. That was not easy in Animoto. There are options for font sizes, styles, and colors to put on your images and clips.

Just upload a picture or a video clip, add your title for your project. Then add more images and video clips. Control how long each item is displayed in your video. Typito has lots of options for your text placement and style with your images and videos. You can upload your own audio or use some of the music provided in the TYPITO library.

When you complete your TYPITO videos, they can be downloaded to your computer, uploaded to your YouTube account, or shared via social media.
