A Word From Mrs. Loor
We are hitting a very busy time of year! Please make sure you are reading communications from your child's teacher for events related to your specific grade levels.
There are a couple of items I'd like to share with you and/or remind you of. I apologize in advance for the lengthy message.
For Take Your Child to Work Day, we had many Franklin staff members bring their children to school and it was just pure joy and fun. My daughter and son had a blast! I hope that your children enjoyed their time at your workplaces as well.
As you know, we are already working on organizing next year's classes. To ensure that we include everyone and accurately provide class placement for all students, we ask that you notify Mrs. Napoles in writing, if you do not plan to return to Franklin in September. Please let us know by June 14th.
We are outside every day for recess weather permitting and we utilize all of our fields as much as possible. Please remember as per board policy 7490, animals are not allowed on school property without prior notice and permission. It also includes arrival and dismissal. This is for the safety and security for all of our students. It would also be amazing if you could pass the word along for all pet owners who live in the area to please clean up after their animals.
The playground is solely for school use from 8am-3pm. I understand that you may be arriving at school earlier for dismissal, but the playground equipment is not available to the public until after school is over.
Lastly, all students in grades 3-5 will be taking the NJSLA (New Jersey Student Learning Assessments) on May 9-11, May 16-18 and May 23-24 (grade 5 only). Please make every effort for your child to attend school on those days. More information will be sent out later this week.
Please see below for updates from our Student Council, Mrs. Mills and Ms. Audino. If you have not signed up to help out with Field Day, there are just a few spots left.
Have a fantastic week!
With Warmest Regards,
Mrs. Loor

Visiting Author - SUCCESS!
On Monday, April 24, 2023, Franklin School hosted author Linda Bozzo! She held three student presentations and an hour of professional development for teachers. Feedback from the students included:
It was exhilarating to have an in person author! (2nd grader)
I have been inspired to write nonfiction. (1st grader)
I really like when she showed us how she worked with the dogs to write her books. (4th grader)
Thank you to the PTO for sponsoring this visit! It was a great day!!
Upcoming Lessons
For the next few weeks, we will be working on our robotics lessons. I know the students are looking forward to practicing coding and exploring the different robots in our library. I’ll be sure to share some pictures!
Book Borrowing
Finally, tomorrow we welcome the month of May! I don’t know how we got here, but there are only SIX more library visits for every class. Our last day to borrow books will be Friday, May 26 and ALL BOOKS ARE DUE TO THE LIBRARY by Friday, June 2. If your student has overdue books, you will receive an email notification and then a paper notice.
Counselor's Corner
Our terrific third graders have been getting creative and making Mindful Glitter Jars! They learned that glitter jars are an excellent tool to help them feel calm and relaxed, soothe big emotions, refocus their attention, and help regulate their breathing. A special thank you to our generous PTO for helping bring this project to life!
For any questions regarding our counseling program, please contact Ms. Audino, our school counselor. Her email is laudino@summit.k12.nj.us.

From the Nurse's Office
Dear Franklin Families,
Spring has finally sprung and allergy season has arrived!
In order to decrease pollen exposure, remember to wash your hands after playing outside (students are encouraged to do the same here at school after recess), take a daily shower to rinse the pollen from your hair and skin and keep the bedroom windows closed to prevent pollen from landing on pillowcases and bedding. Don’t forget your pets! Dogs and cats carry pollen on their coats and can bring it into the home. Remember to wipe them off too!
If your child requires allergy medication during school hours, a “School Medication Administration Authorization Form” must be on file, and signed by both parent and physician. This form is required for both PRESCRIPTION AND OVER THE COUNTER medications (including oral meds, eye drops, nose sprays, and cough drops.) Forms are available on the Summit Public Schools website at: https://www.summit.k12.nj.us/uploaded/District_Forms/Health_Forms/MedicationAdministration14.pdf
Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions.
Thanks,
Mrs. Zanelli
