Term 2 Week 4

Traffic

Kia ora e te whānau,

I started writing this newsletter with a RANT, but have had another think and I am instead going to talk about the benefits of walking to school, even 300 m.

Why? Well because it has been really crazy with Traffic out around the school over the last few weeks! We try really hard to ensure that our students are able to come to school and go home in the afternoons safely. That is why we have a Patrolled KEA crossing on Lingfield Road and an patrolled crossing on Wykeham Place.

Walking benefits our akonga by giving them a chance to self-regulate before coming into school. When we have them in the car, and then stop, rush them out the doors, and drive off, we leave them in a state of heightened of anxiety. Walking allows them to separate from their parents in a calm and even manner.

Walking also stimulates the bowel. So having had breakfast, it is important for the bowel to keep moving. Walking allows for this, so really walking is a healthy thing to do.

Walking is exercise, having spent the night sleeping, even a short walk in the morning allows the brain to invigorate and be fully awake. This means that your tamariki are fully prepared for their learning.

So, the long and short of it. PLEASE, obey the road rules, don't do U-turns in Lingfield, don't stop across driveways, and PLEASE, don't try and drop your child in Wykeham Place, let's keep that as a safe pedestrian access to our school.

Help your child be Healthy. Park in Lingfield Road, Archers Road or at Marlborough Park and use the pedestrian entrances!

Pink Shirt Day Classroom Door Competition

Wow! What an amazing bunch of kind, arty people we have in our school. Look at how beautifully they decorated their classroom doors. Walking around the school today one really got a sense of what wonderful little people we have at our school.

Room 6 Weaving

One of the perks of my job is that I get to see students being PROUD of who they are and what they can do. Today these wonderful akonga came to share their weaving skills with me. What an amazingly talented bunch. Ka pai.
