Principal's Post
Dear Davis Ducks,
Happy New Year! I've been very impressed with our students as they have done an amazing job adjusting back to their school routines. Our front office and health office have been extremely busy while working with families regarding absences. We are a very large school community with 76 staff members and 589 students. Thank you for your continued patience, cooperation, grace, and communication while our team is doing the best we can to support our community with so many moving pieces.
A message from the NMUSD District Office was sent out to all staff and families last night regarding the temporary suspension of visitors and volunteers during school hours through January 24. We will continue to monitor our own numbers and await any new guidance, but as of right now we will not have any volunteers or visitors on campus.
We want our students and staff learning and working in the classrooms, as there is no doubt that being on campus is the absolute best for students. We also want our students and staff to remain healthy. We are obligated to follow certain guidelines that seem to be constantly evolving. As a parent and educator, I hear and understand the frustrations. I will be the first to admit that we are not perfect, but we will continue to do our best, under challenging circumstances, at communicating and supporting our large community, while also providing a high quality education and support for our students and families. I can’t say it enough, thank you for continuing to work with us.
All my best to you and your family.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Flores,
Principal

Grade Level of the Month: Third Grade
Our 3rd grade scholars have been hard at work this past semester. Third grade is a pivotal year for a number of concepts and skills and our students have shown that they are up for the challenge. Each class has been focusing on strategies for our social and emotional well-being as well as reinforcing Davis’s Five Core Values. We have been working really hard on mastering our multiplication and division math facts, exploring fractions, learning several efficient strategies for addition and subtraction, and understanding how to take apart and solve word problems. Our third graders have also been doing a lot of great reading of rich, high interest expository text and learning how to respond to that text through writing prompts and journal writing. We have already seen tremendous growth so far this year and are looking forward to helping your 3rd grader be the best scholar they can be!

Recycling has returned to Davis. Yay! Thank you Ms. Keller and Mrs. Gordon for leading the charge! You may learn more about our current programs by watching this short video.
If you recycle at home and take the recyclable materials to the OCC recycling center please consider donating the proceeds to Davis by telling a worker that you are Davis family.
The Costa Mesa Sanitary District Alkaline Battery Recycling contest is ongoing through March 18th. Please send used batteries to school with your child to be deposited into our collection bins. This is a great way to earn money for our school while helping the environment. We have been the top collecting school for several years running!
