A Note from Mrs. Frees
Dear CFL Families,
It is hard to believe that another school year has passed so quickly. Remember that attendance is so important. Please get your child to school on time each morning. Attendance has been a struggle this year and we are working on strategies to improve that for the 23/24 school year. We want our students to be successful and it starts with being at school, learning both academics and social and emotional skills. Please work with us on increasing our attendance.
It has been a rewarding year, one filled with unprecedented accomplishments. A few of the things that come to mind are the visit from Santa, Spirit Days, celebrating homecoming week, Student Led Conferences, Christmas Programs, After School Clubs, All School Crews just to name a few. All of these things and many others are made possible by our community of learners, of which we are all members.
At CFL, we are very fortunate to have a dedicated, caring and hardworking team of professionals (Teachers, Educational Assistants, Office Staff, Custodians, and other school based and District based Support Staff) who work together to ensure that every child has the best educational experience possible. Staff at CFL always go above and beyond to ensure that students are exposed to a variety of activities to enhance and enrich their school experience.
Our students deserve recognition: Thank you for all your hard work throughout the school year. I am so honored to be your principal; you make me proud to be a CFL Cardinal. You keep me laughing and fill me with joy. I am grateful for each and every one of you!

We will be seeing some staff changes next year and send our best wishes to the following individuals who will be leaving. Their work at CFL has been appreciated and we wish them well in their future endeavors. We will miss you!

CFL Challenge Course Days
During the week of May 16th, all Kindergarteners and first graders have the opportunity to go to the Garco16 Challenge Course. Our challenge course consists of low and high elements that encourage students to persevere to step outside their comfort zones. Our goal is that this experience will help us focus on building agency and wellness through various activities that exemplify team building, social skill development and working through challenges. The students will be led by trained facilitators. We will lead students through a sequence of activities that include icebreakers, games, ground initiatives and then to low elements We will be doing low elements only. That means they will be doing activities that are only 1 foot off the ground.
Here is the schedule for the Challenge Course:

Intervention News
The end of the year is upon us. It has gone so fast. It has been great to see the growth these kids have made over the course of just a few months.
Our last testing will be the first week of May. Teachers may be contacting you about a Read Plan meeting. If your child is needing some reading help for next year, or they are currently on our Read Plan list he or she will be reaching out to make sure they have a completed Read Plan. If you do receive this phone call, please make every effort to attend. It is important that they meet with you to help keep your child on the track to success.
I wish you all a wonderful break. Hopefully you will all have time to rest and rejuvenate before we start again next year. Don’t forget to take some time to read with your child as much as you can this summer. It will help them stay connected for what is to come next year.

ELL Update
Believe it or not May is here and we are on the final stretch of our school year! I have had an absolutely amazing year with your beautiful children. I will miss all my first graders as they transition on to BUE into second grade. I also look forward to another year with all our kindergarten kiddos moving on to first grade!
We have a lot more learning to do and we will stay focused and engaged in our journey.
Again, it’s been a joy and honor teaching your children, and watching them discover the joy of reading, writing, listening and speaking Thanks again and please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
