DALTON MIDDLE SCHOOL
Educate. Challenge. Inspire.
World-class learning that prepares students for success in college, careers and civic life
This week is an exciting week at Dalton Middle School because we have over 300 students returning from virtual instruction! When our superintendent, Dr. Scott, laid out plans to offer virtual instruction as a choice for families, to minimize frequent changes, he set 6 week boundaries in the calendar for students to return to school. Our first group returning begins on Tuesday, Oct. 13. We are looking forward to meeting our 6th graders in person, and welcoming back our 7th and 8th grade students!!
The 2020-21 school calendar has been updated on our website to reflect the new dates for early dismissal and parent conferences. You can view our calendars in English and Spanish on our website now!
As part of spirit and community building at DMS we have several "spirit days" throughout the month, culminating in a team Halloween contest on October 30. Teacher teams have begun selecting a theme and are encouraging students to participate in that theme--ask your student what their theme is.
Tuesday, Oct. 13: Red Out
Thursday, Oct. 15: Throwback Thursday
Friday, Oct. 16: Mr. Phillips day (Mr. Phillips is our 8th grade assistant principal and he LOVES to wear shorts and flip flops to school!!)
Updated MAP Testing Plan
There has been a change to our Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) dates. On October 19 and 20, students will be taking the MAP assessment in Reading and Mathematics. MAP is a computer adaptive test that students take two to three times per school year. The results provide teachers with information to help them deliver appropriate content for each student and determine each student’s academic growth over time. MAP also provides typical growth data for students who are in the same grade, subject, and have the same starting performance level. This data is often used to help students set goals and understand what they need to learn to achieve their goals.
If your child is a virtual student, please sign up for a time for him/her to take the MAP assessment on Oct 26, 27 or 29th. To take the assessment, students will need to take the tests in person at Dalton Middle School. Parents will need to complete THIS FORM to select a date for their child to come in for the assessments.
On the day of the assessment, students will:
- Take both assessments, Reading and Math
- Be screened outside in cars and dropped off at DMS between 9:00-9:15 and picked up by 2:00pm. (or select "bus" on the form)
- Bring their school-issued laptops/chargers and a face mask.
For lunch, students may bring their own or receive one from the school cafeteria.
