February 23
Warrior Wampum Celebration!
Thank you for everything you do for VBE and our TRIbE!
Sweeps!!!
We will be doing expansive sweeps across the school to see what data-based decisions are being made in the classroom to move our students forward. Please expect and welcome feedback, as we only have a limited amount of time before our students test and we want to make every single modification we can to push our kiddos forward.
Here are a few non-negotiable s that we need to ensure we have in place based on recent feedback:
1. Daily Learning Target should be posted
2. There should be a daily demonstration of learning that is monitored and assessed to the rigor of that daily learning target
3. ELA RTI and MATH RTI must be data-driven
4. Centers should be standards-based
5. All students on iReady should be wearing headphones so they do not disrupt other students learning.
Whatcha Reading Wednesday or Turn the Page Tuesday is a school-wide initiative. Please ensure this is taking place weekly to build our students reading endurance. Please track this data visibly to encourage growth.
Early Release Training
Please plan to be in our media center at 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm.
We will go over the A.L.I.C.E. Active Shooting training and code red procedures along with our Indian River Sheriff's Office designee.
The greatest achievement was at first and for a time a dream. The oak sleeps in the acorn; the bird waits in the egg. ... Dreams are the seedlings of realities.

Updates from the Coaches
We have made lots of progress with iReady! Congrats to Mrs. Vega (ELA and Math) in Kinder, Mrs. Nesbit (ELA) and Mrs. Blue (Math) in First Grade, and Mrs. Cisneros (ELA) and Blidgen/Hoffa/Robinson (Math) for their high pass rates this past week in conjunction with the highest number of students in the classroom meeting their minutes!! Just a reminder that students should be getting 45 minutes of instruction in iReady each week, and we are aiming for a 70% pass rate (of course we love when it’s higher). In your mailbox you find may find a report that shows the weekly average time on task for the last four weeks. Highlighted the students are the ones not getting their 45 minutes consistently. To help students improve in this area, consider trying turning off the games, modeling for the whole class I Ready lessons where a large group of students are struggling, and checking student progress to make sure no domains are turned off. Use wampum, create class and/or individual student graphs help help students stay motivated and track their own progress. (Kinder has a cool graph they are using. Ask to see it!) As you know, iReady is what we use district-wide to monitor the progress of students in K-2, so we want to ensure we’re using it effectively. We will also be looking at 3-5 data in the near future. Please review it and keep these tips in mind. If you’d like to do some problem-solving together with any of this, We would love to help! Let us know and we can set up a time right away.

PBiS Updates from Ms. Navarro
It is almost time for our February PBiS event “Movie and Popcorn.” I just wanted to remind you that students with minor infractions or any disciplinary actions such as notes home, phone calls to parent, should not be attending. I will be coming around with the official movie tickets that students will be presenting at the entrance. Please write your name on the back of these tickets. We would like to have a count of the kids attending each event. Students will get a lei and popcorn at the entrance and they will be sitting on the floor, so please remind them to bring a beach towel or small blanket. As we did at our last event, each grade level is responsible for deciding who will stay back with the students not attending (kudos to 4th grade for already having a designated person for each of the remaining events!).
Here is the schedule:
K and 5th February 28th 9:00-10:15
1st and 3rd March 1st 2:00-3:00
2nd and 4th March 2nd 2:30-3:30 (Bring bags to dismiss from Cafe)
Thanks so much for all you do to manage student behaviors in your class. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any concerns, and remember that no tool is more valuable than building solid, caring relationships.

Important Updates from Julie Green
Hello, Title I Teachers! The warranty for all SMART boards will expire in May 2018. Therefore, we need to make sure that any board that is not functioning properly gets taken care of before May 1st. If you are having any issues with your SMART board, please follow the steps below IMMEDIATELY. Why now? If the school ed tech cannot correct the issue, a ticket has to be opened with SMART. This process can be VERY lengthy and time consuming.
1. Put in a help desk ticket through School Dude. Be specific about the problem.
2. The ed tech will attempt to resolve your issue.
3. If he cannot resolve the issue, he will email me and I will begin the process with SMART.
4. Either the ed tech or I will keep you informed once the SMART process is begun.
Thank you for you attention to this matter. These boards are designed to function for MANY YEARS. It is very important to get all of our boards in tip top shape before the warranty expires.
