South Teacher Wins $2,500 Grant

South Elementary School teacher Maria Thomson won a $2,500 grant from Farmers Insurance to pay for flexible seating options for all types of learners.

Mrs. Thomson was presented with a check by representatives from the Michael Romanelli Agency for Farmers Insurance on Sept. 1. She is using the funds to purchase items such as stability balls and floor pillows to transform her classroom. The flexible seating allows for better collaboration, communication and physical activity.

In the photo, from left to right are Principal David D'Andrea, Michael Romanelli, Isabelle Romanelli (Mr. Romanelli's daughter and former student of Mrs. Thomson's), Mrs. Thomson, and Jill Tagert.

PV Music Boosters Plan Fall Events

Perkiomen Valley Music Boosters are proud to present the 4th Annual Mattress Sale - that's right, MATTRESS SALE - Saturday, Sept. 17 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the PVHS gym. Statistically, 1 of every 10 Americans needs a new mattress at any given moment. And it's an important investment - you spend a third of your life in bed.

So if you were one of those people and could spend LESS, get BETTER, and help support PV band, choir, orchestra and theater programs, wouldn't you just have to do that? We thought so.

Each year dozens of local residents do it and have raised thousands of dollars for music equipment, instruction and other expenses. It's a great program, which is why we are doing it for the 4th year in a row.

Other upcoming events:

  • Homecoming is Oct. 15. Sponsored by the PV Music Boosters, this event always needs adult volunteers for setup, supervision and clean-up, as well as donations of food and beverages. To see what need you can help fill, go to Sign-Up Genius here: Find a Sign Up. Find the Boosters page by searching by email: Volunteer4PVMB@gmail.com.

  • Our annual Music in the Valley Marching Band Home Show takes place at the high school Saturday, Oct. 22. This year, the event will attract marching bands from schools around the region, a few thousand band members, friends and family and, for the first time, a food truck area to serve up some awesome eats. Whether you're inside the stadium enjoying the show, or chilling in the parking lot, you'll be able to make the rounds from truck to delicious truck. Information on participating or attending: PVMBNews@gmail.com.
