What an exciting week for our Brickies! Homecoming week brings so many students, clubs, athletics, and more together as one - it was INCREDIBLE to see! Keep on reading to see what our Brickies were up to this week, what is happening in the next weeks, and so much more!
Homecoming Week At The School City of Hobart!
What a fun week our Brickies have had! In celebration of Homecoming we kicked the week off with the parade! It was EXCELLENT and the participation from our Brickies and the Community was some of the best we have seen. Following that amazing turnout was the annual Junior - Senior Girls Powder Puff game where our Lady Bricks competed for the win over each other! They all fought hard during their flag football game, but our Seniors came though with a touchdown and took the victory over the Juniors, 7-0!
Throughout the week we had our themed days such as "dress as your favorite holiday", "royalty day", and of course "Brickie Friday"! The school spirit has been shining brightly and the pride has been beaming! Along with the themed days and after-school activities, the high school also hosted a student versus staff volleyball game - and it was intense! Our Brickie students came out strong with their natural athletic skills and confidence, but our staff showed their grit and scrappiness all throughout the competition and took home the Victory! (Along with some scrapes, bruises, and we are certain some 'next-day' aches and pains.) In the end, it was all for fun and the school enjoyed the moment!
Now, we enter into Friday night where our Brickie Football team will be taking on the Andrean Niners at 7pm! We will also be announcing the themed winners from the parade, our Homecoming court and winners, and cheering our Brickies on to a VICTORY!
We will update the newsletter after the weekend of festivities from the game and the high school Homecoming Dance. Stay tuned!

Our "Pride of Hobart" Marching Band Received a GOLD!!
This past weekend, our Hobart Marching Band competed in Highland's Marching Band competition where several schools were in attendance. They worked relentlessly from their past competition and it shows! Their extra work and experience from the last competition played brightly as they took the field and nailed it! At the end of the competition they were award with the 1st place GOLD trophy! Amazing job, Brickies! Nothing would be the same without you here. Keep on playing those tunes from the Brickie heart!
Commended Students In The 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program
A spokesperson from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation stated, " Those being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success. These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of education excellence in our nation."
We are proud of you, Ian! Way to #BeExcellentOnPurpose
HMS Brickie, Eli, Receives Liver Transplant Thanks To Riley Children's Hospital!
Liberty Elementary "Coins for K-9s!" Fundraiser!
Our Liberty Elementary students have been placing all their loose change in containers over the past couple weeks for two reasons: 1. To raise money for our Hobart K-9 Department and 2. The container with the most determined what Grizzly would be wearing for Halloween! The results are in and our Brickies did a great job!
The Hobart K9 Department came to Liberty Elementary this past week to thank them for donating a whopping $619.22! They also took some time on the beautiful day to educate our students about what they do and the training of our K-9 Officers. Our students loved seeing the dogs in action! All training was done in a controlled environment and was lead by our former SRO, Lt. Gresser. The icing on the Homecoming cake was the gentleman trainer in the attacks was wearing a 'Niners' shirt because the Brickies are going to dominate them at Friday nights game! Love that the entire town gets behind our students and the excitement of the week.
Finally, were the results of Grizzly's Halloween costume. There was a CLEAR winner - Grizzly will be a Lion for Halloween at school! Awesome job to all of the Brickies and what a fun experience. Thank you to our Hobart K-9 Police Department for all the smiles and entertainment!
Boys Soccer Team Learns A Life Lesson From Coaches!
Many take it for granted, but if you ask - teenage boys don't know how to tie a tie! It is an important life lesson and though it may not be needed every day, there are always moments in life when it is necessary and appropriate. Thanks to our Hobart High School Soccer coaches, the entire team learned and will never forget how to do this task. Plus, what great timing with the Homecoming dance this weekend! We expect to see several well-tied ties at the event and know that these young men appreciate the guidance they have from their coaches. Thanks for all you do!
NWI.Life Spotlights Our Brickie!
Most people know Gamaliel Cruz III by Gambo.
Last year (sophomore year) Cruz was elected as president of his Junior Class for the year.
Being in the student council, Cruz helps make major decisions for the school, especially, the junior class. He helps make decisions for homecoming and prom. The student council also hopes to add a ‘Fall-Fest’ to the mix of events.
He is in football, social with his friends, and is also running for homecoming prince!
Cruz also does very well in school and has a 4.3 GPA.
If you were to ask anyone in our school, they would probably say that Cruz is one of the nicest kids you have ever met. He makes everyone laugh and feel comfortable no matter the situation. This is helpful for days like the first day of school when everyone is nervous and uncomfortable.
Even Bartsch said that when he enters the room the energy of everyone is lifted.
Cruz is involved in many activities but does a great job of balancing his school, football, and personal life.
“My advice for students to be successful would be to have really good time management, especially if you are a student-athlete," he said.

iReady Assessments for Grades K-8!
i-Ready is an online program that will help us determine your child’s strengths and areas for growth, personalize their learning, and monitor their progress throughout the school year. i-Ready allows us to meet your child where they are and provides us with data to inform instruction. i-Ready replaces the Star Renaissance Assessments that they students took last school year.
The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions based on student responses. Each item a student receives is based on their answer to the previous question. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier ones. The purpose of this is not to give your child a score or grade but to determine how to best support their learning.
Thank you for your continued support and for being a partner in your child’s learning! I look forward to sharing i-Ready information with you throughout the year. If you have any questions about i-Ready, please do not hesitate to contact the school. You can also learn more about i-Ready by visiting i-ReadyCentral.com/FamilyCenter.
