It's a most wonderful time of the year!

We've had fun, Hawks!

This year we've read and learned and created and researched. Thank you for returning your books so that students next year can enjoy them. We still have quite a few books out, though, so please check backpacks and under beds and bookshelves for any stray library books. Now it's time to relax and enjoy all the extra time to READ!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Click on the above title link for the the Library LibGuide

for access to all sorts of information. The summer reading tab is a great place to find replacement PDFs for the summer reading logs that were sent home with students, as well as links to suggested titles, book trailers, and author websites.

There are at least 3 different ways to earn FREE books this summer with those summer reading programs from B&N, Half Price Books, and the SA Public Library. Then you can also earn free frozen yogurt, Chuck E Cheese tokens, and HEB t-shirts.

There are also some great activities going on at the public library this summer. Dinosaur George, Happy Tails, Spikey Mikey, Lego Building, storytime, and come and go crafts.

Below is just a preview of what the page looks like! The link is in the title THE LIBRARY LIBGUIDE. You can also always find that page linked from the main school website or at the bottom of the newsletter.

Big picture

Launchpad and Overdrive

Don't forget that any internet enabled device has access to a great collection of electronic library books and audiobooks.

Launchpad is where you access a lot of non-fiction, as well as BrainPop videos. You can get to Overdrive there, but on a personal device you can actually use the standalone Overdrive app.

Download the FREE APP Overdrive from your store of choice. The first thing you'll need to do is to add the NEISD library collection (I usually search by zip code). Then enter your student's login information (or your information if you've contacted me BEFORE SCHOOL IS OUT and we've created an account for you) and he or she will be able to check out all sorts of interesting titles from anywhere with wifi! Overdrive has lots of device specific help videos so it's easy!

Username: first initial + last name (up to 10 letters) + last 4 digits of ID number @ (no spaces or + signs when entering online)

Password: Full student ID number

During the summer the best way to contact the librarian with questions about book titles is via the Harmony Hills ES Library Facebook fan page. School email will be checked periodically so it is still possible there, but the response will not be as fast. ;)
