NEWS & NOTES

HISPANIC AUSTIN LEADERSHIP (HAL) CHALLENGE- WE WON! We are thrilled to share that Davis won the Are you greener than a 5th grader? challenge that ran from 3/22-3/29. As the grand prize winner, Davis will be awarded a retrofit water refill station for the school! Other prizes include special science time led by Jenive Isaacs and a pizza party for a top scoring class. Thanks to the many staff who participated in the challenge, especially our top five scoring staff- Jenive Isaacs, Melani Novinger, Veronica Ashton, Amy Wassel, and Beth Hall. And a HUGE thank you to Jenive Isaacs, who was given this project with little notice and turned it into something that involved many people and raised awareness of what we can do to contribute to sustainability efforts.

STAAR THANKS: Thanks SOOOOO much to Maja McElveen and Susan Lane for spending many, many, many hours preparing STAAR materials for test administration and submission. The testing days were very smooth- job well done! Thanks also to all staff for your flexibility and support with the schedule changes on testing days.

PPfT SPRING SLO ASSESSMENTS: See below for important information regarding SLO post-assessments. The window is currently open, so you should be planning to administer the assessments and enter the data within the next few weeks. The deadline for entering all SLO post-assessment data is April 29. Please let Jenny or Courtney know if you have any questions.

SLO Post-Assessment Window: March 21-April 29

  • March 21 marked the beginning of the SLO post-assessment window for year-long SLOs.
  • Teachers should be administering the same post-assessment as their pre-assessment.
  • All students who were enrolled by the student enrollment cutoff dates (October 23) should be included and assessed.
  • If a special education student had a new/revised IEP in the middle of the year, then please follow the most recent testing accommodations.

3) Teacher Final SLO Submission: April 29

  • After post-assessing their students, teachers will enter all of the post-test scores onto the SLO Database Roster, complete and submit the SLO Verification Form, and enter comments.
  • Teacher may request for individual student exemptions if needed.

SPRING FLING: Davis Spring Fling is this Saturday, 4/9, 4:30-7:00pm at Davis. This event includes a 'disco', raffle, games, concessions, and more. It's a fun event, especially when you join in the dancing in the cafeteria. Please come by for a little while if you can. Thanks to all the teachers who have donated a 'teacher treat' for the raffle!

AISD ONLINE ETHICS TRAINING: All AISD employees must complete a brief online ethics training by June 30, 2016. If you have not yet completed this training, see the information below to access it. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Employees can access the course by logging into the AISD Cloud and locating the Human Capital Platform (HCP). Once inside the HCP, employees select the Professional Development tab and they will find the course listed under My Courses.

AISD Innovation Summit #3: The third AISD Innovation Summit of this school year will take place on May 7th at McCallum High School. This event is focused the AISD student experience, but is intended for a broad audience including teachers, administrators, parents, and community members. The summit kicks off in the morning with a special screening of the film, Most Likely to Succeed. A student panel will respond to the film, highlighting AISD student perspective of learning and school. During the afternoon, in addition to student performances and demonstrations to showcase technology for learning, we are excited about hosting an internal “shark tank” competition in which students (with the help of their librarians) pitch their best ideas for a campus MakerSpace to a panel of guest judges. Winners will win a significant cash prize to help realize their vision.
