Knowledge

"The young man and his companion often went apart and appeared to weep. I saw no cause for their unhappiness, but I was deeply affected by it." (Shelly Pg. 91) The creature learns and discovers what sympathy is, he at first does not understand the couples unhappiness yet he is still affected by it. Learning how to sympathize for others is an important thing to know.

..."I found a fire which had been left by some beggars, and I was overcome with delight at the warmth I experienced from it." (Shelly 85) In this quote, the creature learns how to keep warm and survive off the warmth of a fire. This is very important to his knowledge so that he can continue his survival.

"I remembered too well the treatment I had suffered the night before from the barbarous villagers." (Shelly 91) In this quote, the creature learns that he is not like the average person, because people react to him differently and are scared of him.
"A strange multiplicity of sensations seized me, and I saw, felt, heard, and smelt at the same time." (Shelly 84) In this quote, the creature quickly gains the knowledge of all of the senses he has and how they work.
"When I looked around I saw and heard of none like me. Was I, the, a monster, a blot upon the earth from which all men fled and whom all men disowned." (Shelly 105) The creature discovers how others talk and communicate, but he realizes he is nothing like the rest of them.
"In a fit of enthusiastic madness I created a rational creature and was bound towards him to assure, as far as was in my power, his happiness and well-being . . . I refused, and I did right in refusing, to create a companion for the first creature. He showed unparalleled malignity and selfishness in evil; he destroyed my friends . . . Miserable himself that he may render no other wretched, he ought to die. The task of his destruction was mine, but I have failed." (Shelly 199) Victor has enough knowledge in this quote to be smart enough to not create a second creature, so that they do not reproduce.

Modern connection

Over the years, the high school dropout rate has been gradually decreasing, which means more students across the United States are being educated. As we learned from the book Frankenstein, knowledge is a very important thing. Knowledge helps you get to better places and helps you live to your fullest. http://fivethirtyeight.com/features/u-s-high-school-dropout-rates-fall-especially-among-latinos/

Modern Connection

Modern studies today show that people learn off one another best. A young child would learn how to function in society off of their parents and other people that they associate with. For example, the creature in Frankenstein learns how to function in society off his creator and others he observes in public. This is very important to him for his growth as a person. http://www.wired.co.uk/news/archive/2010-10/13/learn-from-mistakes
