News From the Principal
Hello TES Families,
Welcome to week 20 of the school year and The Great Kindness Challenge! This is one of my favorite weeks of the year because it is an opportunity to spread joy and practice random acts of kindness! Research tells us one of the best ways to increase our own happiness is to do things that make other people happy. “In countless studies, kindness and generosity have been linked to greater life satisfaction, stronger relationships, and better mental and physical health—generous people even live longer (Juliana Breines).”
"The Great Kindness Challenge" is an awesome event put on by Kids for Peace Global. Today, each student was given a checklist and challenged to complete 50 random acts of kindness in one week (12 for UTK/K/1st). It’s going to be amazing! All students who complete (or attempt to complete) the challenge will add their handprint to a banner at lunch that says, "Kindness Matters!" which we will proudly display in front of the school. You can even make this a family event, by using the Family Edition, and encourage random acts of kindness at home this week as well- or any week for that matter (attachment below). Thanks for participating and have fun!

DONATIONS NEEDED!
Doing a January Clean Out? If you have any Spanish reading books that your child no longer uses or needs we would love your donations! Our Spanish Immersion classes are always growing their classroom libraries and donations are very helpful. Please drop them off at the front office so they can be distributed to the appropriate grade level. Thank you!
COVID TESTING: The district will be ending the weekly covid testing for students at school on Jan. 30th. Any family wishing to test their child at home each week on their own, may pick up free tests from the office.
BUDGET:
In the upcoming weeks we will be receiving our site budget for the next school year (23-24). In anticipation of the budget release, we would love your input on how you feel our site funds would best be spent. We appreciate you taking this brief survey to provide us with feedback as we begin the initial stages of budget planning. Thank you!

TRAFFIC & SAFETY REMINDERS:
Please remember that ALL parking lots are closed in the afternoons. You may not enter the parking lots to pick up your children in the afternoon. Please park off campus and walk in to meet your child. The only exception is cars with valid, visible handicap placards that need handicap parking.
In the morning, the main parking lot is open for DRIVE THROUGH AND DROP OFF ONLY. Please do not park in the parking lot in the morning and do not get out of your cars as you drive through. When drivers park and get out of their cars it creates problems for everyone else trying to drop off quickly and keep the lines moving. If you need to get out of your car to assist your child, please park off campus and walk them in.
If you are newer to our school or need a refresher, complete drop off/pick up details can be found here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Vb1SPPueeZxGOOtE6_RmMFmBY9Hr9QMAd-auZ3p3m7M/edit?usp=sharing

News from the PTO!
Pitch in to help our teachers and staff during the PTO's Day of Service on Friday, January 27!
This will be a day for parent volunteers to give their time completing different tasks for teachers. Teachers may need help with projects like copying and stapling, helping in the classroom, hanging assignments around campus, cutting out paper shapes for craft projects, etc. The Day of Service held in December was a huge success - 34 parents completed 33 projects for 16 classrooms!
You can sign up for one-hour shifts - stay for one hour, or stay for the whole day. We will have some light snacks and beverages in the PTO room while we work. Let's help take a little bit off of teachers’ and staff's plates! Sign up on Konstella: https://www.konstella.com/.../63c090d29b98eb7cb52b4eca
Please be sure you are cleared by the office to volunteer on campus! Find the application here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1XhAzp_g7_5ptnsB-OvoLA9XPwj0ig3xcodEFKdqNip8/edit?usp=sharing

Resources for Military families!
Dear Military Families of Tierrasanta Elementary,
We are happy to have a school Military Family Life Counselor (Lars Nielsen) to support our military students and families. Lars can offer generalized support to you and your children, given military connected families often face unique stressors related to service. What this support looks like varies family-to-family, student-to-student, depending on your needs and wishes.
If you would like more information, have any questions or feel he may be of assistance to you or your child, please reach out to him at (619) 315-9141.

School Lunch will continue to be free for all students this year. We will have hot lunch served at school and the salad bar will be returning! Students are also welcome to bring their own lunches from home if preferred. School lunch menu here: Kids Choice Lunch_22-23SY [8.5x11] (sharpschool.com)
Traffic and safety reminders!
Morning Drop off- If you are using the morning drop off line please come from the Gabacho side and make a RIGHT turn into the parking lot. Turning left into the parking lot off La Cuenta causes a back up into the intersection where kids cross and frustrates drivers following the school rules and making a right hand turn as requested. Thank you!
Please do NOT ever park in or enter the lot with the solar panels. That is for staff only and it is extremely unsafe when cars come in and out with no where to turn around. The other large lot is open in the MORNINGS ONLY for drive thru drop off. The large lot is closed in the afternoon to everyone except those with a valid and visible handicap placard or sticker. Please park off campus and walk in to meet your children in the afternoon. Thank you for helping make our campus and streets safe for our students!
There is a free tutoring program available to students through the Brainfuse Company. This program is part of the California State Library systems and will connect you virtually to a live person that can help your child with most content areas from Kindergarten through 12th grade. Please click on the link below to explore this service.

We’d like to Welcome Amanda Cohen, Psy.D. who is a new mental health professional at our site. SDUSD has contracted with Daybreak Health to provide ongoing mental health counseling. There is no cost to you or eligibility requirements. Referrals will be made by school staff and then Amanda will reach out to you to obtain consent to treatment and talk more about school concerns. If you would like more information you may reach out to her directly at amandacohen@daybreakhealth.com or visit https://www.daybreakhealth.com for more information on Daybreak Health and the programs it offers.

Public schools throughout California are required to provide information about themselves to the community in the form of an annual School Accountability Report Card (SARC). These report cards provide a variety of data to allow the public to evaluate and compare schools in several important areas:
● demographic information
● school safety and climate for learning
● academic data
● class size
● teacher and staff information
● professional development
● fiscal and expenditure data
The SARC, which follows the state's guidelines and document template, are issued each spring and focus on the previous academic year. A SARC is typically 12- 14 pages long. I have attached an electronic copy of our site’s SARC for the 2020-21 school year. Hard copies of our SARC are also available in the main office. The 2020-21 SARC is available at https://www.sarconline.org/. You can also access our current SARC electronically at: https://sarconline.org/public/print/37683386089056/2020-2021
If you have any questions about our school’s SARC, please don't hesitate to contact me.
