JANUARY 18, 2023 - NEWSLETTER
SLPHS families,
Last week, we had our first of three early release days planning for this spring. Teachers worked together to design assessments to determine where students are in their learning and align to learning outcomes for the next month. This will provide both the learner and instructor a clear indication of progress and readiness for next steps. Students who remained in the building engaged in activities they selected, and the day as a whole went well. Thank you for your support of this important work!
Looking ahead, course registration for next year will begin for high school families and students the week of January 30 and run through February 24. All high school course registration materials will be available online starting January 23. I hope you will be able to engage in parent and student information sessions that will be offered during the registration window.
February is also the time for Panthers for a Purpose. The Panther Foundation’s annual week of giving is Feb. 18-25 and concludes with a big party on Saturday, February 25. It’s a great way to come together for a good cause. Mark your calendars!
As always, thank you for your ongoing partnership – together we contribute to bright futures! One school, one community #SLPPantherProud!

Community Event — Jan. 26: Kate Gladdin, Resiliency Speaker
Don't forget to mark your calendar to hear Resiliency Speaker Kate Gladdin share her message on Thursday, January 26 at 6 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center at Spring Lake Park School. The talk will be paired with a health fair at Spring Lake Park High School in the Rotunda where families can learn about community resources.
Kate is a speaker and coach who specializes in uplifting teens and developing their resiliency. Her talks help reduce student anxiety by teaching the power of ''response-ability'' which is the ability to choose a response to any situation based on your perspective of it.
Through Kate's talk, attendees will learn how to:
- Recognize the impact of negative thoughts and self-talk
- Understand the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and reactions
- Use a simple 3-step strategy to quickly change unhelpful thought
- Identify sneaky negative beliefs and transform them
- Develop a growth mindset during times of adversity
For questions, contact Abbey Pierce.

Last week, Seniors Savan Sant and Bushra Sumrain had a chance to testify at the Minnesota Senate Education Finance Committee. Thanks to Senator Michael Kreun for the meeting and to Savan and Bushra for making us proud!
