Osprey Outlook May 22nd
Olivet Elementary Charter School
Dear Wonderful Olivet Families,
I know you are wondering about the Re-opening Plan - we are working on it on a daily basis. Through outreach to stakeholder groups, we are creating a variety of scenarios that will allow us to open in a safe way. Safety for employees, students, and family members is the primary concern during this process.
Looking back at this year, there is so much to be grateful for. We had a terrific and fun Harvest Fair, amazing Winter Wonderland, and so many fun field trips! Glorious morning recesses with kids playing hoola hoops, dancing to music, and shooting hoops! A new Garden Sanctuary was also added to our campus!
We are also saying good-by to a few retirees - Marie Carter, Geri Brown, and Georgie Black. Saying they will be very missed, is an understatement.
We hope your summer plans are shaping up despite the restrictions. Encourage your kiddos to keep reading and practicing their math facts - it will help them get on track quickly, when we return. We will be in touch over the summer and provide you with updates as to our reopening plans.
In health,
Dr. Anna

A message from Geri Brown...
Dear Olivet Families, Students, and Staff,
It’s been quite a year, hasn’t it? The school year is drawing to a close as the world is trying to define a new normal. Olivet School is not immune to what to me seem like big changes to come. And to add to the changes, although some of you may be surprised, after 26 years here at our lovely small school with a big heart, it is time for me to move on.
I have come to the conclusion that there will never be a right time to leave. I so love working with students and opening their eyes to possibilities. I’ll miss the field trips, plays, assemblies, reading good books, math, guest speakers, my colleagues, and all of you. But just to keep everything perfectly honest, I WON’T miss yard duty and paperwork!
I have had the privilege to work with students in the classroom, in chorus, and in after-school classes and programs. I have always been grateful for the support of parents over the years and have taken pride in the growth in so many ways of the kids I have taught and mentored. Being a teacher really is a satisfying profession and a great deal of fun.
I am also grateful to Olivet Families, our outstanding parent group, for all the love and support they have shown our students and staff. So many of the enriching experiences our students have enjoyed have been funded and organized by them.
I leave behind my wonderful colleagues who will carry on Olivet School’s traditions of family and staff involvement in the learning of the children of Olivet.
With very best wishes for future growth and success,
Geri Brown
A Message from Marie Carter...
Dear Olivet Family,
I’m writing to say thank you for all the years we have worked together. At the end of this school year, I will be retiring. While I am excited for the time and potential new hobbies that lay ahead, I am also deeply nostalgic about what I am leaving. I have enjoyed working with everyone at Olivet Elementary in my thirty years here and the collegial atmosphere that we have all shared. I have loved watching the kids grow and learn, how each year brought new surprises and change. I have loved how my job allowed me to be flexible and make decisions on the spot. I have loved that I was never bored, that the challenges and rewards the job brings required me to be constantly on my toes, always searching for new ways to get ideas across. I have loved that I felt like I had a voice at school, that I was a part of the decision-making process and that I was valued for my contributions. I have loved feeling like I made a difference in kids’ lives, no matter how small. And I have loved that the people I have worked with have so been supportive of one another in our effort to build a positive and rewarding environment for the kids who have come into our lives. I thank you all for the years of camaraderie and a shared sense of purpose. It will be greatly missed.
All the best,
Marie Carter

Super Summer Learning!
The University of Southern California has also collaborated with a variety of educational entities to create this resource that is also full of fun learning activities for students. Of course, hands on learning is also key to a well rounded education. Get outside, take nature walks, ponder questions with your kiddos such as, "Why is the sky blue?" or, follow the growth of a piece of fruit. Most of all, have fun learning!
