Weekly Update

From the Principal's Desk
Greetings CLRES Team!
I hope you had a good weekend and that you were intentional about your self care. As you move throughout the week continue to find ways to prioritize your self care.
This week, collaborative planning continues as well as informal class visits. As we visit classes we are looking for non-negotiables as well as alignment to curriculum and pacing.
This week we kick of fall with a celebration in plaid on September 22. Dressing in plaid is for staff only.
Let's make it a great week on purpose.

Non-Negotiables
Please review the classroom Non-negotiables. If you are not sure or need support please reach out to our Instructional Lead Teachers - Mrs. Payne, Math, and Mrs. Kessler, Reading and Science.
During this past week's walkthrough, classes are still missing many elements: classroom libraries, manipulatives labeled and available to students, student work posted, and objective/agenda posted. Most classes visited were utilizing PGCPS curriculum.
Bulletin Boards
Please be reminded that bulletin boards should be updated monthly.
Curriculum and Pacing
This past week 3rd, first and kindergarten teacher engaged in collaborative planning with the ILTs. Good discussions were had around pacing, accessing the curriculum, and areas of support. ILTs will be planning with teachers and conducting model lessons. Peer class visits will also be arranged so that we are leveraging the strengths we have in the building.
During class visits, while most of us are utilizing PGCPS curriculum, pacing or utilizing incorrect materials for the lesson was a noticed trend.
On Tuesday. September 20th from 2:15 - 2:45 we will have a group help session for staff needing assistance accessing curriculum documents. We will meet in the media center.
Community Schools Needs Assessment
All Community Schools staff, families and community partners are required to take this survey. At your earliest convenience, please take a few minutes and complete this one for our school. Must be completed by October 14th.
Grading and Attendance Expectations
In grades 1st - 5th, two grade per subject per week should be entered in SchoolMax. We have completed 3 full weeks of school, which means students should have at least 4 grades per subject. Progress report grading window is September 28 - 30.
Elementary Grading Policy 5121
Daily Attendance
Attendance must be taken daily by 8:00 am. Students who arrive after 7:45 am sign in the office and their tardy will be noticed. Please double check at the end of the day to ensure student attendance has been accurately captured for the day.
Student Accident Reporting
The Student Accident Reporting System (SARs) is an online application for Prince George’s County Public Schools that replaces the previous, paper-based accident reporting procedure. When a student is injured at school, on a school bus, or during a school-sponsored activity or trip, a report must be submitted.
This report must be completed by the school-based employee who observed the incident. If the injury is reported by the parent, then the person receiving the report should enter the SAR. Please review the directions on how to access SAR and complete a report.
Communication is the Key
Failure to respond - We have 48 hours to respond. I suggest responding as soon as you see the communication so that you don't forget. I know I am guilty of seeing a message and saying to myself I will respond later and then I forget to respond. Set a time each day, when you will review and respond to family communication. This included returning phone calls.
How we respond - It is easy to get defensive or frustrated, but we cannot let that translate into our tone. Remember customer service. While I may not be able to give you what you want, I can speak to you and treat you in a way that lets you feel heard and respected, even if you don't get what you want. In our role it is important to not take things personally and don't match negative energy.
Goal Setting Conferences Unit I Employees
Here are the evaluation documents shared in pre-service week for your review. Please make sure all goal-setting activities are completed in eDoctrina at least 1 day before your scheduled time.
Grandparents day was a huge success. Thank you to Mrs. Hibbert, Ms. Daniels and everyone else who had a hand in making the event a success.
Systemic Lockdown Drill
Please review with your students the expectations during the lockdown drill.
Self-Care is Not Selfish
4 Key Dimensions of Self-Care
Self-care is essential for managing stress, preventing burnout, and mitigating compassion fatigue – all common occupational hazards for caring individuals (educators, therapist, social workers, care-givers...). Self-care is also important for a sense of overall integrity, as it ensures we are “walking our talk.”
Remember to be intentional about making time for your self care. What do you consistently do that fills your cup?
