CAMP ACADEMICS

READING/WRITING

We will begin an author study on Pat Mora's books. We will be reading and comparing her books for many weeks. The class will also be writing responses to literature for her books.

Reading groups are going great. I know that you are reading with your child each night. It is showing in their reading in all content areas at school. THANK YOU!

MATH

In math the students will continue to work with place value with ones and tens. Please work with your child with dimes and pennies. These can represent the 10s and 1s thus providing a link to the real world. They love working with money.

SCIENCE

We are still discussing push and pull. Have your student roll a ball down the hall, in the kitchen, or down the sidewalk. Ask if this is a push or pull. Have them give a ride to someone in their wagon. Ask if this is a push or pull.

SOCIAL STUDIES

We continue to share what characteristics make good citizens. We will be nominating one of our classmates to be our class High Flyer. We will then take the opportunity to write about what makes this student a good citizen of our class.

PEARLS OF WISDOM:

Our greatest weakness lies in giving up.

The most certain way to succeed is always

to try just one more time.

WEBSITE OF THE WEEK

The website of the week is: www.SoftSchools.com

This site has a huge assortment of games, practice, flashcards, puzzles, etc... It has concepts from all subject areas from Pre-K to middle school. It is worth looking at.

FUN FACTS

According to studies made at Northwestern University, men change their minds two to three times more often than women. Most women, the experiment found, take longer to make a decision than men do, but once they make a decision they are more likely to stick to it.
