The Greendell Gosling Flyer

January 21, 2022

Dear Greendell Families,

Thank you so much for the opportunity to work with and support all of the Greendell students and staff over the last 3 weeks. I have lived in Mountain View and worked in Palo Alto for the last twenty years, and had no idea what a special place Greendell School really is. I have two grown sons and I had forgotten the amazing years I spent with them at their Parent Pre-school. Getting to welcome preschoolers at the front gate, full of joy, wonder, and energy was the best part of every day. Working with the Learning Center and Young 5’s students in class and at recess reminded just what a treasure small children are. They laugh, cry, question, share, play, rebel, learn, and mostly just want to be noticed. I feel lucky to have had the chance to spend time with them. (Kevin Rouse - Interim Principal)

Here's What's Happening In The New Year:

Springboard to Kindergarten is an opportunity for children who have not attended preschool to receive a high quality educational and social experience prior to entering kindergarten in the fall of 2022. This program is for students who are registered for kindergarten in the Palo Alto Unified School District and priority is given to families demonstrating a financial need. We are now accepting applications. The program begins on Monday, February 7, 2022 and runs through June 2, 2022.

Students must be registered with Palo Alto Unified School District before they may attend Springboard to Kindergarten. Registration is now open. Registration is started online and completed in person at Registration Services at 25 Churchill Avenue in Palo Alto.

The Young Fives Program continues to prepare students for Kindergarten next year. The Young Fives program educates both students and parents, through monthly parent education meetings. Parents are instructed on a variety of topics such as conflict resolution or responsibility. The Young Fives students are excited for the 100th day of school classroom celebration coming this Thursday, January 27th as well as the Lunar New Year and Friendship Day (V-Day). For perspective Young Fives families, we are offering two Young Fives virtual information sessions: Monday, January 31, 2022 from 7:00PM – 8:00PM and Thursday, February 10, 2022 from 7:00PM – 8:00PM. Families may register here to attend either of these events.

The Young Fives staff are still looking for parent volunteers to help at recess and lunch. Please contact the Greendell front office if you can help. Parent volunteers are the best.

The Preschool Family Program works to educate the whole family. The program is a parent participation program that also includes parenting classes. Registration for Preschool Family begins in March. Online tours are currently being offered. We hope to return to in-person tours soon. Preschool Family is starting a new baby and toddler class on January 26, 2022 led by teacher Karen and teacher Elizabeth.

Young Athletes Event: The Learning Center and Young Fives students will be participating in the “Special Olympics - Young Athletes” program during the week of February 21st. The program is an inclusive and welcoming program that allows students to ficus on teamwork and basic sports skills such as running, kicking, and throwing.
