Principal's Message
Dear Families,
Welcome to our Week 6 newsletter.
School Improvement Plan 2021-2024:
As you are aware, we are currently developing our next School Improvement Plan for 2021-2024. We started this process by thinking into our School Vision Statement. I'd like to thank those of you who contributed three words that encapsulated your hopes and dreams for our children over the next four years. Staff and students were also involved in this process. Our school vision statement is as follows:
At James Erskine Public School, we foster an inclusive, innovative culture based on high expectations and continuous growth. We are committed to developing engaged, empowered and resilient lifelong learners.
Warm Weather:
Parents have seen me regarding concerns around waiting on Peppertree Drive to pick up their children during this warmer weather as there is little shade. Unfortunately due COVID-19 guidelines, I am still unable to permit parents/carers on school grounds unless they are attending a meeting in our office or visiting our school uniform shop. In the meantime, during days of extreme heat, I encourage the use of our Kiss and Leave zone. We are also asking our students to leave school wearing their hat for sun safety.
Please see the link below for the latest COVID-19 advice for families:

I appreciate that this year has been a challenging time with COVID-19 guidelines. I am looking forward to when these guidelines have eased so we can reconnect as a school community.
Kind regards,
Mrs Quinlan
NAIDOC Week
Last Thursday at JEPS we had NAIDOC Day. We were asked to wear red, yellow, black or white. We had the opportunity to participate in rotations which consisted of activities that helped us learn about the Indigenous people and their culture. On the last rotation, all of year 6 met an Aboriginal man named John and he taught us a lot about the Indigenous people and their culture. He brought in a pelt of a kangaroo and multiple lovely smelling medicinal leaves he grew in his own backyard! John also showed us how the Aboriginal people would hunt with boomerangs and the different uses and types of boomerangs depending on its purpose. It was an extremely entertaining and informative lesson and John is a very funny man.

Spotlight on Learning
At JEPS, our vision is to instill within our students a love of reading. In doing so, we provide opportunities for our students to read to self, read to someone and listen to reading.
Read to self sets an essential foundation for creating lifelong readers, writers and learners who are independently motiovated.
Read to someone helps readers, especially developing readers, increase areas of comprehension, accuracy and fluency.
Listen to reading models reading fluency to our students.
