Livingston Elementary
Monthly Newsletter December 2022
Principal's Message
Happy December!
I hope you all had a fantastic Thanksgiving and have kicked off the Holiday season with family and friends! This month will bring celebrations, fun, and of course a whole lot of learning. While we hope that you are able to spend time with your loved ones we encourage students to be at school every day! Each day there is new learning that occurs and valuable information for students. If you are going to be gone, please contact your child's teacher and the office.
I would like to thank our maintenance department, transportation, and the City of Cody for working hard to keep our roads and sidewalks cleared for students and staff. This is no easy task, especially when it is still dark outside! The hard work is appreciated and we value all that you do for us!
WY-TOPP Scores
Congratulations! The scores are in from the Wyoming Department of Education, Livingston Elementary is one of the only 7 schools in the state with an "Exceeding Expectations" target in the area of growth on the WY-TOPP Assessment in both 2018-2019 AND 2021-2022. In layman's terms this means that our students are continually growing and making improvements on the state assessment. To say I am proud is an understatement, this is a huge achievement.
"The aim of education is growth; the aim of growth is more growth." - John Dewey
We couldn't do this without our students, staff and the support of our families! Thank you again for all that you do to make learning a priority in your homes. We will be revealing a student surprise in the next few weeks for all of their hard work.
Absence Letters
These letters have not been sent the last two years due to COVID. This year we have started this again. There have been multiple calls about these letters. For clarification, the purpose of these letters is to keep you informed on how many days your child has missed. If there is a concern past the letter, I will reach out to you personally. This process is part of our board policy. Please see the attachment below for reference.
Winter Concerts
Miss Bree and students in grades Kindergarten, 2nd and 4th are working hard for their Winter Concert! Their concert will be Tuesday, December 15th @ 6pm at Wynona Thompson Auditorium. Grades 1,3 & 5 will have their concert in January.
I wish you all the best this Holiday Season. I hope that you enjoy your families and friends.

Arrival and Dismissal
Students need to be outside or at breakfast in the morning.
Breakfast starts at 7:45am
Time before school is used by teachers to plan and prepare lessons and materials. Because teachers are unavailable to supervise them, we cannot allow students to be in the hallways before 8:10am, unless you have arranged tutoring.
Instructional Bell- 8:10am
If you arrive after the bell you will be marked tardy.
Tardy: The elementary schools of Park 6 take attendance twice daily. Attendance is taken first thing in the morning and afternoon. In the morning , students who are late but arrive before 8:30 are counted tardy. If they arrive after 8:30, they would be considered absent for the morning. In the afternoon, students absent longer than 20 minutes after 11:30 will be considered absent for the afternoon.
Note: Habitual tardiness is dealt with at the building level. Five (5) tardies to school equal one unexcused absence.
Dismissal Bell-3:15pm
Friday Dismissal-Early out every Friday-1:35pm
Please call the office before 2:30pm if you have a change in after school plans. This helps with getting notes to the children in a timely manner. If we don't hear from you, we will assume to continue on with regular after school plans.
Library Books
Winter Break is almost here! We have a big goal in the library this year. Our goal is to have no overdue library books by winter break. Currently we have 250 library books that are overdue. A book is considered overdue if it has been checked out longer than 2 weeks. We have a school full of readers and love that so many books are getting checked out. We want to make sure those books are coming back to the library so others can enjoy those books too. Please remind your child to return their books on time. If you have any questions please email Mrs. Macias raeanmacias@park6.org.

NURSE NEWS
Dress appropriately for weather conditions. Children should dress warmly in layers of clothing. Remember warm boots, gloves or mittens and a hat. Remove wet clothing promptly.
Be safe on sleds and snow tubes: Keep away from streets and motor vehicles. Pick a sledding location that is clear of obstructions like trees, fences and rocks. Sled in proper form. Kids can prevent injuries by sledding feet first or sitting up, instead of lying down head-first.
Be safe on skis and snowboards: Wear a helmet, it's important to protect your head from injury. Wear protective goggles. Keep your skin from being exposed to harsh temperatures to avoid frostbite. Be especially careful with small areas of your body, such as your hands, feet and ears.
