Vergennes Union High School

Message from Sheila Soule:

I am happy to report that we ended the week without any additional cases of COVID-19 being identified in any of our schools. We sincerely appreciate your continued support and tight adherence to the procedures we have put in place to help reduce the possibility of COVID-19 spread among the staff and student population. We will continue to update the dashboard over the weekend, and in the event we need to report any significant changes we will reach out directly. Enjoy the weekend and stay safe.

Classroom Highlights - Modern Expression

Modern Expression, led by Chris Wyckoff, is one of our elective English courses. With a focus on communication, the course ends with highly polished dedication speeches. Always a celebration, this event is usually held in the library and attended by students, teachers, and family members. Commodores don't let a little thing like a pandemic get in the way! Because we are not allowing visitors in the building, the students in Mr. Wyckoff's class delivered their speeches on the stage in the auditorium allowing for safe distancing for the small handful of teachers and classmates that could attend while family members viewed the speeches over Zoom. Congratulations on delivering your speeches and honoring those most important to you.
Big picture

End of Semester 1 and Proficiency Recovery

As explained last week, students in grades 9-12 will have an opportunity to work with teachers on a day designated as proficiency recovery. Only students in cohort 1 who have been called back by their teachers will attend school on Thursday, January 21. Only students in cohort 2 who have been called back by their teachers will attend on Friday, January 22. We hope this additional time will allow students an opportunity to demonstrate proficiency and complete the course successfully. Students who elect not to attend may need to repeat the course which may affect an on-time graduation.

All cohort 1 Middle School students will attend on Thursday, January 21 and all cohort 2 Middle School students will attend on Friday, January 22.

Athletics News

The state has relaxed the guidelines about athletics and practices have resumed for basketball here at VUHS. While we don't yet know when games might resume, we know how passionate this community is about our athletic program. Peter Maneen, ANWSD Athletic Director, shared this article earlier in December. If you didn't see it. please take a moment to read this tribute to this special community.
