DRESDEN
For most Americans, Dresden is best known for the massive firebombing that destroyed most of the city and killed at least 25,000 people in the last months of World War II. Dresden today is a thriving city of over a half a million people and an integral part of a reunited Germany. After reunification in 1990 much of Dresden has been restored to its former glory. It has truly regained its nickname the “Florence of the Elbe”. Dresden is rich with sights including the “Frauenkirche” or “Church of Our Lady” which was rebuilt with the original stones after being completely destroyed during World War II. Dresden is the capital of the German state of Saxony and is home to the largest technical university in Germany “Technische Universität Dresden” If you ever feel like venturing into the former German Democratic Republic, Dresden is a “must see”. Viel Spaß beim Abendteur im Osten!
