Camacho Connections Jan 2, 2023
from the desk of Wendy Gonzaba
I would like to wish you all a wonderful holiday season filled with all the things that make you happy - food, fun, fellowship, family. I hope you are able to RELAX, REJUVENATE, REFRESH AND RENEW yourselves!! We can't pour into others unless we take the time to pour into ourselves first! Play some self-care bingo - you DESERVE to take care of YOU!!!!!
THANK YOU for all that you do each day for our students here at Camacho. This type of work is hard, really, really hard, but I want you to know that each day YOU make a difference in the lives of our students, their families and our staff! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you all!!!
With love & gratitude,
Wendy
AP Announcements
Happy holidays! Congratulations to completing an amazing first semester & serving our students each & every day.
If you are like my family, this is the time of year where we watch all the Holiday movies. Recently weโve been on a Home Alone kickโฆflash back to the 90s! While watching this scene I made a connection to our students. Prior to this scene in the movie there was chaos, misbehavior, & lots of unsafe acts that quite frankly were terrible. But ultimately the kiddo in the movie was acting out of being afraid, alone, and feeling the need to protect what was important to him. If you watch the scene youโll see his heart and a positive outcome (thank you Hollywood!).
As we look forward to time off with family, letโs not forget we have students that act in a non-loving way because they know we will love them no matter what & provide something their home life might not. They act out with us, because they know we will lean in to them and never leave them behind.
Important news:
*Please make sure you unplug all lights and appliances.
*Clean fridges & microwaves out.
*Lower and close all blinds.
*Clean up classrooms - stack chairs, throw out trash, clean off counters, wipe down tables, etc. (you will thank yourself for it in January!! Get some students to help out too!!)
Thank you for serving our students and enjoy a much needed restful Winter Break.
Mike

CAMACHO SPIRIT ASSEMBLIES
Camacho will be conducting Spirit Assemblies, in the MPR, to celebrate student accomplishments for each 9 weeks. Awards that will be celebrated at the assemblies include: SHINE awards* (5 per classroom/ different every 9 weeks - *Circle SHINE behavior expectation on the award for the student being recognized for that expectation*), COSMIC Master (85%+ of mastered skills in every content on report card each nine weeks - CHEAT SHEET to help figure out percentages), Perfect Attendance (no absences/tardies each nine weeks) and the Cosmos Captain's Crew award (1 per grade level).
Please fill out the 9 week spreadsheets at least a week prior to the spirit assemblies with the names of the award recipients for SHINE and Cosmos Captain's Crew. There is a tab that will list the previous yearsโ Cosmos Captain's Crew winners so that we can continue to be purposeful in recognizing as many different students as possible each year. You may access previous years SHINE winners by looking at each of the previous nine weeks' tabs.
SHINE and CCC recipients will be announced and asked to come to the front of the MPR to receive their award. Please bring your SHINE Awards to the MPR with you. Mrs. Gonzaba will bring the CCC awards.
Perfect Attendance and Cosmic Masters should be given out in the classroom and those students will be asked to stand to be recognized during the assembly. Please ensure that these students know ahead of time that they will be recognized so they are ready to stand up.
Certificates are printed and ready to go! All certificates are in the workroom located in the labeled cabinet. Please only take what you need for your own class as we had to print those on campus for this go around. If the copies run out, please let Tracy know and she will run you more.
For SHINE and Cosmos Captain's Crew winners ONLY, please reach out to those parents no later than Tuesday 1/6/2023 to invite them to their students' assembly to see them receive their award. Please do not invite any parents of Cosmic Masters or Perfect Attendance to attend! Seating is limited with 3 grade levels at a time in the MPR. Each individual teacher should reach out to the parents of these two award recipients in their class. For the cosmos captains crew award the teacher of the student nominated to receive the award should be the one calling to let those parents know.
COSMOS CAPTAINโS CREW AWARD
Student Leadership-we believe strongly in empowering students to have a voice in creating and sustaining the culture of their campus.
Engagement and ownership in their school has been proven to support foundations of success, academically and social-emotionally, for all students. Why is student leadership important?
*Supports the development of the social/emotional well being of students *Helps students develop ownership in their roles within the school
*Builds school spirit *Emcompasses a broad range of students which facilitates inclusivity *Develops a growth mindset *Creates a sense of belonging and community
The Cosmos Captain's Crew award is for one student per grade level that has demonstrated exemplary student leadership by modeling SHINE behavior in everything they do and by SHINING BRIGHT everywhere around Camacho and our community!
As a team you may choose the student that will receive the CCC award, and individually you can choose your SHINE recipients (5 per classroom/ different every 9 weeks) or another idea is to let the class cast secret ballots for the students they feel have exhibited the SHINE character traits for that 9 weeks.
