Because God Loves Me, I Can Operate from Humility
This week we're starting our new series "Pet Squad" as we teach kids what God's heart is like and how to be people after God's heart. Really we're taking a big look at the life of David to reveal more of God's character and what He wants to grow in our hearts!
This Sunday, kids are learning the story from 1 Samuel 16:1-13 where God has rejected Saul as king and he sends Samuel to the house of Jesse to find the next king that the Lord has chosen, which is David. I think one verse that we've all heard from this passage is, "humans do not see what the Lord sees, for humans see what is visible but the Lord sees the heart."
Let's remember that the Lord seeing our heart reveals much deeper things that just our visible behavior or actions. He knows all of your motives and thoughts and doubts but in spite of all of those things HE LOVES YOU ANYWAY! Before sin entered the equation you were created in the image of perfection and the Lord is drawing you to himself to restore your heart so that it reflects his. When God anointed David he saw treasures in David's heart, despite the future sins that He would commit.
When we let the reality of that sink in, humility grows in our hearts. We don't think of ourselves more highly than we should but instead honestly think about the value that you have through your faith. You do have great value! The God of the universe created you out of love for you and for you to fill a purpose in the gifting that he's given you. BUT, all of this comes from the Father and His goodness and grace towards us.
As we're walking through this series we're going to focus on being united in prayer over 2 things: what the heart of God is like and how we (us and kids) can be people after God's heart.
Gods Heart- God Loves Me
My Heart- A Heart After God Is Humble
This week let's pray for these things:
- Father, show me YOUR HEART! Remind me that your love for me is unfailing and surpasses all understanding. That your love is everlasting, that you delight in me, that I can never be separated from you. Not only do you love me but that you delight me and you take pleasure in your people. Help me not just to know these things in my head, but for my heart and life to be transformed in this truth.
- Give me a heart that's humble. Allow me to see that I matter and I'm valuable because I matter to you. That all of my confidence comes from my identity as your child. Guard my heart against pride and help me to see others as you see them!
#ForSC Is On April 14
Our next #ForSC Day is on Saturday, April 14. Our neighbors may not know Jesus, but our actions show who He is. We love an invisible God by showing visible love to our neighbors.
On #ForSC Day, NewSpring partners with local nonprofits to serve our neighbors across South Carolina. Working together, we can make a difference in the communities where we have campuses and build relationships that go beyond a one-day event.
You can sign up HERE!
Leadership Night, April 24
We're having a leadership night on April 24 at 7:00pm at the TD Convention Center. We'll get to worship for a little bit and then hear from our Leadership Team! You don't want to miss it.
There will not be food or childcare for this event.
