INFO @ ALTA VISTA
TEAM ALTA VISTA = AWESOME
Words can't begin to express how much I appreciate your dedication, flexibility, and enthusiasm. Despite a first week that threw us lots of curve balls and high temps, you managed to teach 560 students a dance! It was so overwhelming, that I found myself tearing up at the end. Then you showed up after a LONG day and wowed the parents with your Back to School Night presentations. I apologize for not making it into many classrooms that night, but the response I heard from parents was overwhelming positive. I truly feel blessed to work with such wonderful people.
BTW - Lauren is working on putting the dance footage together. As soon as it's ready, I'll share it.
MUSIC STARTS TUESDAY
Music with Jane begins on Tuesday. Please be sure to check the schedule to confirm when you should meet her in the cafeteria.
P.E. ON HOT DAYS
It looks like another week of hot weather is on the way. If the temperature gets too hot or the air quality worsens, Jay (Mr. Thomas) may move the location of your P.E. class to the cafeteria or staff room. If it is going to be moved, Jay (JayThomasTraining@gmail.com) or I will let you know.
MISSING STEP LADDER
Please keep your eye out for Susan's missing step ladder. Thanks!
BLANK F & P PAPERWORK
The blank F&P paperwork has a new home. We've placed a filing cabinet in the conference room and Christy added the materials. As you get ready to assess students, please keep in mind that the conference room is in use everyday between 8:15 and 9:00. We also have a number of parent meetings and IEP meetings scheduled before and after school in the coming weeks.
LEARNING MATERIALS
Since RSP has moved into a smaller space, Kari and Megan O. have been sorting through their materials and have had to make some tough choices. There are a number of books, supplies, and manipulatives that may work in your classroom. You'll find some picture of a few items below. Please stop by the Media Center before the end of the week and give some supplies a new home.
TECH TIPS FROM LISA
FREE EDUCATIONAL ACCOUNTS
Vooks.com (https://www.vooks.com/) is an on-line storybook reader you can use to show picture books to your students. There are many stories, searchable by topic, that are brought to life! The program doesn't like .org accounts, so I made mine with a personal account. If the district will "whitelist" Vooks, we can then use our school accounts. But I'd sing up now before the offer disappears!
The second App is Calm (https://www.calm.com/schools). They are offering the $60 Prime membership to teachers for their own use and use in the classroom. You fill out a form on the computer and they will get back to you about signing up on the App. I am waiting for mine, but other friends have already received theirs. The App has many applications to support our District's focus on Wellness and Mindfulness this year - chimes, relaxation exercises, meditation lessons, calming music etc.
AUTO-JOIN
Auto Join off on iPhone or iPad: I am seeing an issue where staff members are having to reconnect to USD-NET each time they get disconnected; from their iPads or iPhones. If you are seeing this issue please follow the instructions below to resolve it. We aren't sure why this setting has changed but this should fix the issue.
- Go to the Settings app
