The Cherokee Chronicle
September 2022
Principal's Note
Cherokee Families,
We are halfway through our first nine weeks in the 2022-23 school year and are so excited to continue to help your child meet their academic, attendance, and social emotional goals! We are also incredibly proud of our students, faculty/ staff, and entire school community on receiving a Level 5 TVAAS Growth Score which is the highest growth score a school can get from the state of Tennessee!
To help continue this academic growth, the school has purchased and is using additional academic resources and programs in math, ELA, science, and social studies. We are also providing ELA and Math tutoring during school for students in grades 2-5 through the TN All Corp grant and are looking to provide other grade levels before and after school tutoring through Title I.
We are also excited to announce that we have a grant for a transition coach. This new position will complement our School Counselor, Frontier Health Student Support Counselor, and WCDE Social Worker to provide support for student behavior, attendance, and other student needs.
Finally, this Friday, September 2, Midterms will be available via Parent Portal. You can use the button below to access your child's grades and attendance. If you would like to sign up for this access, please call the office at 753-1130 or visit between 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM. Any student failing a class will have a hard copy of their midterm coming home that will require a parental signature. Please reach out to your child's teacher if you have concerns or questions about their progress. Below is the updated 10 point grading scale which is aligned with the state of Tennessee:
- A: 90 to 100
- B: 80 to 89
- C: 70 to 79
- D: 60 to 69
- F: 0 to 59
Take a look below for other important information and dates. Feel free to email me if you have any questions merrimanm@wcde.org or call the office at 753-1130.
Respectfully,
Mark Merriman
