CBE Covid-19 Weekly update

The week of October 4th, Carl Ben Eielson Middle School had one positive student and staff COVID-19 cases. Out of that case, there were no close contacts due to school or school related activities or athletics. Carl Ben Eielson Middle School administration has reached out to all those deemed close contacts. If you have not been contacted, you or your student are not identified as a close contact in the school setting.

Close contacts include students and staff members who were within six (6) feet of the individual for at least 15 cumulative minutes in a classroom or in other school spaces. Due to guidelines from the North Dakota Department of Health, if the close contact is fully vaccinated OR the close contact and the positive individual were both wearing masks, the close contact does not need to quarantine if asymptomatic.

It is also recommended that students who are symptomatic be tested for COVID. Fargo Cass Public Health provides indoor walk-up testing on Monday – Friday from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM at 3051 25th Street South, Fargo, Suite K. The testing site is located in the Family Fare Strip mall. Prior to testing, please register at https://testreg.nd.gov/. More information on testing can be found by clicking here.

Sincerely,

Brad Franklin

Carl Ben Eielson Middle School Principal

Conference time is fast approaching. We look forward to seeing you and your child to discuss their learning and growth at Carl Ben Eielson Middle School.

Carl Ben Eielson Middle School will be using PTCFast again this year as our school-wide scheduling program for our Parent Teacher Conferences. The online scheduling tool will allow parents the ability to schedule a conference time for your student’s parent teacher conference. Please click on the following link for details and directions.

6th grade student conferences should be scheduled according to your student’s Language Arts Class. Please ask your child who their Language Arts teacher is before scheduling a conference time.

7th & 8th grade conferences are set up by the student’s team and not by an individual teacher. Please ask your child which team they are on before scheduling a conference time.

If you prefer to conference with your child’s teacher(s) via Zoom, please contact them directly and they will set up a time to meet with you on October 14th between 7:00 - 8:00 pm.

Parent PowerSchool and Canvas support

Our tech coach will be available from 4:00 - 6:00 pm both nights of conferences to help parents with creating a Canvas account and downloading the Canvas App. Please stop by and see her if you need help or have any questions.

Parents and Guardians have the ability to log in and check on their child's attendance, grades, and assignments (homework). The system used depends on the type of information they are looking for and the student's grade level. Here is a quick rundown of each system and what it provides for parents/guardians:

PowerSchool Parent

PowerSchool Parent access is the best place for parents to start, by clicking the PowerSchool logo on the Fargo Schools website menu bar. In PowerSchool Parent, you can:

  • Review and submit annual school forms for your child.
  • Check attendance.
  • Review grades, report cards, and progress reports.
  • View documents associated with your child's school record.

*Parents of 6th grade students should check with their child's teachers for more information on how to access progress information.

Canvas

Parents can get to Canvas from a link right inside PowerSchool parent. Parents can also download the PowerSchool Parent App from their phone's app store.

Parents/Guardians of children in grades 6-12 can log into Canvas to:

  • View your child's course schedule.
  • View assignments for each course.

Parents and Students can find help documents and instructions on using Canvas at https://sites.google.com/fargoschools.org/canvassupport .

CBE PTA - National PTA School of Excellence Survey

CBE PTA has completed the initial step to become a National PTA School of Excellence, a recognition program that supports and celebrates partnerships between local PTAs and schools to enrich the educational experience and overall well-being for all students.

Our next step is to conduct a baseline survey across the CBE community to gather feedback on what is working and areas of improvement. We will develop an action plan based on the results that also aligns with the CBE continuous improvement plan and conduct a follow-up survey in the Spring to measure impact of actions taken throughout the school year.

Please take a few minutes to complete the survey at https://bit.ly/cbefallsurveycbenews by Monday, October 11. All responses are anonymous. We will share a summary of the results via all our normal PTA communications channels.
