From Mr. Clemente
Dear Winter Park Band families,
Happy Concert MPA week!
I cannot say THANK YOU enough to our students, parents, and WPHS community for making our Annual DOOR-2-DOOR Fundraiser a success this weekend. With two classes of students participating in their first Door-2-Door, a rescheduled date from our traditional weekend, and warmer weather than we are used to this time of year everyone overcame and persevered to pull this off. I'm so proud of everyone involved. Just from yesterday's collections, we have raised a total of $18,722.52 for the Band Program. We will know the full total on Monday morning when the total of online donations is reported from SchoolPay. Outstanding work everyone!
An event like this would not happen without incredible support from our Band Booster parents. Heather Ribaric, Robyn Fodor, and Natalie Storch along with the entire Band Booster Board for their preparation to make this a successful event. Ellen Deloach coordinated all things provisions for Saturday, making sure that everyone had breakfast and lunch to stay energized and hydrated throughout the day. Dana Adkinson and Amanda Schaefer for coordinating the morning and afternoon shifts. Our parents who volunteered their time to drive: Jay Adkinson, Tammy Bartell, Valerie Becker, Anolia Brown, Laura Cambridge, Laura Culhane, Sarah Davey, Lisette Dennis, Carlos Diaz, Carolina Diaz, Rebeca Flores, Robyn Fodor, Michael Hodges, Glen Ioffredo, Dave Kerst, Kristopher Kest, Maria Perez/Medina, Paula Pratt, Chris Rediske, Kimberly Sadowski, Amanda Schaefer, Roger Schaefer, Amy Sheppard, Kimberly Somers, Kevin Spencer, Cyndy Stephenson, Aaron Strickland, Beth Visconti, and James Visconti. Also thank you to Lori Gavin and her counting room team of Dana Adkinson, Sara Meyer, Kim Somers, Richard Meyer, Paula Strickland, Anita Vassos, and Pete Vassos for their attention to detail in the tally.
Even though we are now past the Door-2-Door Fundraiser day, there is still time for donations to be made! In case you have neighbors, family, or friends ask if they are still able to donate, you can direct them to the link below or have them visit our Band website at www.winterparkhsband.com and click on the Door-2-Door Fundraising Campaign logo to make a donation online.

It's performance week!!! This week culminates the third concert cycle of the year for our three concert bands. Wind Symphony will be performing at District 8 Concert MPA hosted by Cypress Creek HS on Thursday at 6:00 PM, followed by Concert Band at 11:00 AM and Symphonic Band at 1:30 PM on Friday. All information concerning Concert MPA can be found later in this Newsletter. One thing to point out - all Concert Band students will be reporting directly to the Main Campus on the day of their performance, Friday, March 4. Please consider chaperoning your student's band for this event. It's a chance to see the students perform and also do what they do every day in class in the sight-reading room.
Let's make it a great week!
Mr. Clemente

Week of February 27, 2022
Hello everyone. Thank you to all of the students/parents who came out for Door 2 Door yesterday! Please don’t hesitate to send the link for donations to friends and family out of town. There is still time to contribute! Parent drivers, counters, and coordinators, thank you for your help. It could not have happened without you. A special thank you to Heather Ribaric for coordinating the drivers and students, Ellen Deloach for feeding the students, and Lori Gavin for heading up the counting!
Please note the chaperone needs for MPA this week. All of the bands will do well!!
Have a great week everyone.
Natalie Storch

This year's Concert MPA is hosted by Cypress Creek HS. An itinerary for the performances can be found HERE. We need 4-5 chaperones to travel with each group to CCHS. Pride of the Wildcats - Winter Park Band Fleet Vehicle Support and Improvement
We are very proud of our Operations side of the Winter Park Band. We have a dedicated group of parents that take the Winter Park Band & Color Guard to all their events. However, without the use of the large tractor trailer that transports our equipment to and from each marching band event and the small trailer for color guard the task would be next to impossible.
Through the years, the operations group has made many changes to the trailers to improve the functionality for the Winter Park Band. Historically, all of the monies have been raised through private contributions of a select groups of parents and through the Alumni Foundation. Because of this the need of a full fundraiser event to deflect the cost of the band operations was never really until now.
In effort to maintain our large trailer’s top-notch condition, we are planning to do some MAJOR repairs and improvements to the trailer that is now in its 15th year of service for WPHS band. Additionally, we need to either replace (preferable) the small trailer or make it road worthy again.
Some of the items on our list of improvements are costly, including:
- Repairing some minor damage to larger trailer
- Repainting the lower section of the large trailer
- Rewrapping the upper section of the large trailer
- Replace wheel bearings on front axle
- Moving the back stairway to the back of the trailer
- Replacing or repairing the small trailer
- And other improvements to keep our kids and volunteers safe.
Since we are re-wrapping the large trailer, we will be selling sponsor spots on the larger trailer to defray the cost. There are 10 spots that are available for $1,000 each and the entire front of the trailer for $5,000. These opportunities are a great way to support the Winter Park Band and they are also tax deductible.
Please contact Keith Gavin at kgavin@sscands.com for further information on donations or to provide the goods or services to the improvements that are so desperately needed.
We will be also seeking volunteers to help at a Trailer Work- Days throughout the month of January. We will be repairing minor body damage, painting the trailer and removing the old logos. Please contact Keith Gavin @ kgavin@sscands.com if you can assist.

PRIVATE LESSONS
Unlike a full band rehearsal experience, studying with a private teacher focuses in on the student’s individual needs. Students who study privately once a week from a professional musician are usually those who excel and find Band more enjoyable. These students frequently earn positions in honor groups like All-State and All-County, and make entry into our more advanced bands like Wind Symphony and Jazz Ensemble I. Some even go on to earn college scholarships, even if they are not majoring in music!
By following the link below, you will find a list of local private teachers. This list is not exhaustive, and there may be other individuals who are not on the list. If you know a private teacher who should be added (or would like to be deleted), please contact Mr. Clemente at michael.clemente@ocps.net.
