Principal's Message
Aloha Hickam Families,
We hope everyone had an amazing first quarter, I know we did. It was amazing to see all the innovative ideas and strategies used in the classroom to support student learning. I would be remiss if I did not commend the work ethic of our wonderful Hickam students as they worked diligently on their learning tasks. The combination of our committed faculty and staff members, dedicated students, and the unwavering support of our families truly makes Hickam a special place to be.
We hope you have a wonderful break. If we ever may be of service, please call the school at (808) 307-4600 or use the “Contact Us” button at the bottom of our school’s webpage with any commendations, concerns, or questions you may have.
Sincerely,
Patrick Wetzel

Anchored 4 Life Tip and Quote of the Month!
"Family is a lifejacket in the stormy sea of life." - J. K. Rowling
Tip: Deployments are hard on all members of our families. Sometimes it helps to talk to a fellow student that has gone through a similar experience. Please let our MFLC Ms. Julia Sandersen, cntr.jsanderson@k12.hi.us, know if your family has an upcoming deployment or return from deployment. We will coordinate with her bring the Anchored4life team leaders (fellow students) to meet with your child to talk and give them a kit to help ease the transition.
The Parent-Community Networking Centers (PCNCs) serve to create supportive partnerships among the home, the school, and the community for the purposes of supporting student success, and building a sense of family and community.
Technology Coordinators’ Message
The Hawaii State Department of Education (HIDOE) is committed to guiding students in their use of technology as a tool to support their achievement and encourages their use of HIDOE-owned or leased digital devices, network, and internet services for educational programs within the framework of its responsible use guidelines.
As such, we at Hickam Elementary ask that parents and legal guardians, with their child, review the Technology Responsible Use Guidelines which were provided to you at the beginning of the school year or when you registered your student this school year.
Within the Technology Responsible Use Guidelines booklet is the Technology Responsible Use Form (“TRUF”) which should be returned to the child’s school as soon as possible. The signed forms constitute an understanding and an agreement to abide by all rules, regulations, and guidelines relating to the use of HIDOE-owned or leased digital devices, network, and internet services, which may be modified or expanded as needed by HIDOE.

Hickam Elementary School Technology Mission
The technology mission of Hickam Elementary is that all classes integrate technology that supports student engagement so that all students are digitally literate and develop 21st century skills
Hickam Elementary School promotes leadership and smart integration of technology into instruction. Our goal is to integrate technology throughout the school day and across all content areas in grades K-6. We use technology as a way to enhance and deepen student learning and not just as a tool or add on. Students in grades K-6 will receive formal instruction in the Makerspace Lab. Our Technology program uses standards from the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) as well as the Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA). We will also incorporate standards from the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) for our program.
