STAFFORD STRIDERS

It's hard to believe spring is just around the corner and we are busy planning for another fun year of Striders! This popular once a week, after school program introduces kids (1st thru 5th grade) to the sport of running through games and some basic running drills.


To pull off this very fun 6-week program, we need a team of encouraging coaches and substitute coaches. Coaches work in pairs to run game stations; if you can co-lead a game of tag, you can coach striders!


Benefits of being a Striders coach:


  • Your child is guaranteed a spot in this sell-out program
  • The registration fee is waived for one of your children
  • There is a small preschool/kindergarten program for children of coaches only


Striders will meet Friday's after school from 2:10PM - 3:00PM from April 10th thru the fun run on May 15th. If you are unable to volunteer this year as a full time coach, we are looking for substitute coaches to help fill in for absences. If you are interested in coaching, please send us an email. FAMILY DIRECTORY

Want to connect with students and families outside of school for play dates, birthday parties, etc.? You will need to become a PTSA member to access the school directory . The school district's policy does not allow for school staff to share phone numbers or email addresses with other parents.


To become a PTSA member and have access to the school directory, please follow the steps below:

2. Become a PTSA member ($10/person) here.

3. Once complete, you will automatically have access to the directory.

Music and Arts Partners - CLASSROOM CONTEST!!!

Dollar for the Arts Classroom Contest!!!

In March Music and Arts Partners (MAP) asks every family in our school district to donate a dollar or more to support art and music programs. MAP is a volunteer, non-profit, organization working to fill the funding gaps for art and music education in our school district. MAP has returned almost $1 million to all schools in the district in the past years. Please help to continue our wonderful music and arts programs by using the envelope your student will be bringing home in the next few days for your Dollar for the Arts contribution.


To encourage participation, Stafford MAP is hosting a contest for the highest percentage of participation. The classroom with the highest participation in the school will receive a special treat. Contest deadline is March 18th!


Help your student to make this fundraiser a success by participating and giving at least a dollar for the arts in the envelopes sent home. Please send the envelopes back with your child to his/her teacher. As you know, the music and art programs are part of what makes our school so outstanding. We appreciate your support.


Example: Last year Stafford School raised almost $500 for Mr. Cunningham who was then to purchase new music and an entire new musical for the 5th grade. District Information

PART TWO OF OUR STUDENT SUCCESS ACT COMMUNITY FORUM

Please help provide the district with pivotal feedback by attending the public forum being held on Thursday, March 12, beginning at 6 PM at the District Office; 22210 SW Stafford Road, Tualatin.


In November, the West Linn-Wilsonville community provided crucial feedback to help the district make improvements that reduce academic disparities and meet students' mental or behavioral health needs. That input shaped the district's Continuous Improvement Plan, which was submitted to the Oregon Department of Education and approved in December.


The West Linn-Wilsonville School District is now eligible to apply for and receive approximately $7.6 million in grant funds. As part of that application, the district requires additional community input.


Community members can provide feedback through an online survey if they are unable to attend the March 12 Community Forum.

WLHS WINTER/SPRING PLAY

Melanie Marnich. A Number is a compelling meditation on human cloning, personal identity, and the conflicting claims of nature versus nurture. These Shining Lives chronicles the strength and determination of woman in the 1920s who worked in a watch factory painting watch faces with glowing, radium-rich paint. The play is based on the true story of the "Radium Girls," and the toxic and deadly levels of radium poisoning they encountered. Their strength and determination helped shape today's rules and regulations within the workplace. The plays run March 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14. Curtain is 7pm. Tickets are $8 for students, $10 for adults, and can be purchased at the door or online at www.wlhstheatre.org.
