The affect of the Landslide
The landslide in Uttarakhand was very disastrous. Many people died and many are still missing.Pilgrimage places like Gangotri, Yamunotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath were affected. This happened due to a cloudburst in June 2013.Landslides due to floods destructed buildings, houses and killed people. The Indian Air-force and the Indian Army played an important role in rescuing people. They worked for months in unfavorable conditions to save people. The Prime Minister undertook an aerial survey of the affected areas and announced 10 billion aid package for disaster relief efforts in the state. Many other states also helped the homeless and injured victims of the flood.Local youths from several affected villages near Gangotri helped stranded tourists and pilgrims, by sending messages to their places and by providing food. The disaster was not preventable but without the help from the government and the local society, pilgrims and tourists were helpless.
