celebrating 25 years of excellence in catholic education
happy 6th week of easter!
Theme for the Year: Goodness
Our Motto: Teaching the Mind...Nourishing the Soul
At St. Joseph Catholic School, we are striving to become missionary disciples, recognizing the goodness of God in our lives and in the world around us, each and every day.
Our Mission and Vision Statements
Mission:
St. Joseph Catholic School provides students with a safe and prayerful learning environment, enveloped by an intimate community of active and faithful families.
Vision:
Catholic schools in the Diocese of Fort Worth are committed to opening the doors so that our students can reach further than the walls that would otherwise enclose them and therefore are able to recognize and cherish the eternal and transcendental goods of Truth, Beauty, and Goodness.
From the principal
Dear Families,
I hope and pray you are all well. As the school year is winding down, I want to touch base with you before the busy week ahead. I want to offer my praise and thanks, and reach out with information regarding our last days of the 2019-2020 school year.
We have accomplished a lot together these past months. I am so very proud of everyone! Once we were given the directive to close the school building and begin distance learning, St. Joseph Catholic School sprang into action, developing new ways to continue educating our Knights, academically and spiritually. While other schools placed their students’ learning on hold, we moved forward providing opportunities for coming together in prayer, engaging in interactive lessons, holding online conferences (in groups and one-on-one), and developing recordings and videos to stay connected to one another, to share, to learn, and to grow. Along the way, your feedback, praise and encouraging words were shared with the faculty and staff. Parents, teachers, and administration actively worked together, as the school guided the distance learning process. Again, I am so very proud of the efforts and accomplishments of our students, parents, faculty, and staff!
Speaking of faculty and staff, including myself, we miss you all! It really is hard to believe we are at the end of May, the end of our 2019-2020 school year, the end of our 25th year in Catholic education. I would like to thank our parents (and extended families) for partnering with us these past ten weeks. You and your children are why we serve in this ministry. You and your children are the future of our Catholic faith, and we are honored to support you.
Our school is a ministry of St. Joseph Catholic Church. We are grateful to Fr. Kelley and Fr. Kennedy for their leadership, for their prayers and for keeping the school involved in the Wednesday Mass. It was a new experience (and a bit unnerving) for Mrs. Soto and myself to sing the “Alleluia,” but we embraced the challenge and enjoyed giving back to the church in this way. Hopefully, you were able to attend the Wednesday Masses.
I would also like to thank Mrs. Gallagher, and all of the faculty and staff of SJCS for their support, for their dedication to you, and for their dedication to the formation of your children, no matter what the world throws at them. They are an intelligent, kind, and patient group, with hearts of gold. I am honored to be working with them all.
As mentioned, we are about to end the school year, and the building is still closed to parents and students. We will need another plan regarding the exchange of textbooks, this time to retrieve them from you. We are also ready and excited to give awards and final report cards to our Knights. The plan has been developed and is currently in the hands of the Catholic Schools Office awaiting approval. Once approved, we will begin distributing and retrieving items on the last day of school, May 27th. To maintain social distancing, we will implement this plan over a three-day period, concluding on Friday, May 29th. Your teacher will be emailing you with what textbooks are expected back, so you may begin rounding all of them up in preparation for the day. Don’t forget to locate your library books and any other school property you may need to return. Be watching for the plan details via email, once I have approval.
We are having a totally awesome event this Friday! We have created our very first SJCS Virtual Field Day (80's theme) this Friday, May 22nd. Mrs. McCarty has emailed you all the information. I hope you will take a look at the video prepared for you detailing the events, and make use of the score sheet for the day. We are hoping to see as many of our Knights in action as we can! You may share your photos and videos with Mrs. Doering at bdoering@stjosephtx.org and she will try to share as many as she can on social media. Go, Knights!
On Wednesday, May 27th, our official last day of school, we are planning an End of Year Car Line Parade! We must still follow social distancing guidelines, so we thought this could be a fun way to safely see as many of you as possible, and to offer you a wave of congratulations from the curb for completing the year. Feel free to decorate your car in celebration. We (faculty and staff) will be “decorated” as we celebrate YOU! We are still working out the details. Plan for this to happen the evening of May 27th, at 7:00PM. I hope you will be able to make it! Details to come on this very soon.
Lastly, please keep our 8th grade graduates and their families in your prayers. Their year has not ended as planned, with treasured activities canceled. Nevertheless, in no way does the lack of being able to celebrate together take away their fabulousness! We are so proud of all they have accomplished through their years at SJCS. We will miss having them on campus and are sad to see some of our families ending their time with us, as their last child graduates. We hope our 8th graders enjoyed the yard signs and gifts provided through the fundraising efforts of the Class of 2020. Mrs. Gallagher and I had a blast helping to deliver them. We have been honored to highlight each and every one of them on social media. You are all unforgettable, 8th grade!
I hope you enjoy Field Day and your long Memorial Day Weekend. I will see you for our final days of 2019-2020 next week. I will continue to stay in touch with updates over the coming months, as new information comes our way from Governor Abbott and/or Bishop Olson. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns. As the year ends, know that you are all in my prayers for a safe and restful summer. Please continue to pray for the world.
