Students made bread on an open flame today at Retreat Farm
Given the bitter cold temperatures this afternoon, the students had the opportunity to build an outdoor fire to use for cooking. They were provided with homemade bread dough, which they wrapped around sticks and then turned over the open flame to bake. As some students prepared bread, others churned fresh butter by hand in mason jars. They all enjoyed warm bread with butter and roasted marshmallows before retreating to the warmth of the barns to spend some time with the animals...
Doesn't that sound like a wonderful way to spend a cold New England afternoon?!
Parents: Girls on the Run is about to kick off and we need your help!
Right now, we need a team of coaches to help prepare for the season. If you are curious about the program, and would like to get involved by coaching our students, please visit here.
A little more about GOTR:
At Girls on the Run we inspire girls to recognize their inner strength and celebrate what makes them one of a kind. Trained coaches lead small teams through our research-based curricula which includes dynamic discussions, activities and running games. Over the course of the ten-week program, girls in 3rd-8th grade develop essential skills to help them navigate their worlds and establish a lifetime appreciation for health and fitness. The program culminates with girls positively impacting their communities through a service project and being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5K event.
Time to submit your Box Tops clippings
And if you haven't done so already, please consider downloading the new Box Tops app so you can do away with the clipping and simply scan your receipts. How easy is that?!
Winter Sports Season is Upon Us! Please read to prepare for next week.
**During the winter sports season, Monday will be a free dress down day.**
Depending on your student's sport of choice, please make sure they are dressed comfortably and in layers if appropriate.
**If your child needs a booster seat, please make sure they bring that each Monday.

Saint Michael Saints high school basketball team
by Phil Leggiere
The Saint Michael Saints High School basketball team had a busy week, finishing up their recent string of road games before returning for an exciting homecoming.
On Tuesday, January 14 the Saints traveled to Hardwick, Massachusetts to take on the Eagle Hill School squad. In a hard fought first half the Saints kept the score tight against a very aggressive Eagle Hill team. Unfortunately, the Saints momentum flagged in the second half, stymied by a very erratic offense which missed many shots, allowing Eagle Hill to surge ahead to a lopsided 45-25 win. Michael Kelliher and Casey Christie led the Saints in scoring with nine and seven points respectively, while Jack Leggiere, back on the team after a brief hiatus, hit for four points.
On Wednesday, January 15 the Saints, after four successive games on the road, were back in Brattleboro at the Austine School to host the Greenwood School, where they treated the home court crowd to their strongest effort of the season so far. After a slow start, which left the Saints trailing by 21-16 at the half, the team caught fire in the second half, completely dominating Greenwood. The Saint defense, led by Stephen Borst and Ezra Christie, stopped the Greenwood offense cold, controlling the boards and forcing numerous turnovers. On offense Michael Kelliher's laser sharp shooting contributed 14 points, while Ezra Christie, back after missing the past few games, chipped in five points and numerous assists, leading the Saints to a solid 42-29 win.
Next week the Saints head to New Hampshire to play The Dublin School on Tuesday, January 21 and then are back home on Wednesday, January 22 against High Mowing school.
