Sumpter Giving Tree
I wish you joy during this season of giving. I wanted to let you know that we are doing our VIRTUAL Giving Tree again this year. The deadline to bring a gift with the designated child’s number (Ex. #1A) to the school is Wednesday, December 14th. Please only put gifts in gift bags and do not wrap the gifts.
Please click on the following web link (or copy it into your web browser if clicking doesn't work) to go to the signup sheet: volunteersignup.org/MBFDP
Your participation is greatly appreciated by the Sumpter Staff and our families in need. A big Thank You to all the families that will participate in granting these wishes this year!
Warmest Wishes,

When is sick too sick for school?
The list document below helps to provide guidance on when students are too sick for school and should not be considered medical advice. Please contact your healthcare provider with health concerns.
Absences
Schools are held accountable for student attendance, but more importantly, regular attendance is crucial for student success. Many of the lessons at school require direct instruction that can’t be replicated through worksheets or reading assignments. Therefore we ask the following:
- Make regular attendance a priority in your family.
- Plan family vacations during school vacation periods if at all possible. If this is not possible, contact the school well in advance to get assignments.
- Vacations are considered unexcused absences.
- When your child is tardy or absent, send a written explanation within three days of the absence. This helps the classroom teacher provide for a successful transition back into school. Illness, medical appointments, and family emergencies are considered to be excused absences.
- Call before school starts to avoid receiving the attendance email/call.
- Please schedule private lessons (music, dance, etc.) outside of the school day.
- Babysitting, newspaper routes, or other student work should not interfere with student attendance at school.
- If your child is ill please call the school if the absence is more than 3 days. Work may be assigned and collected in order to prevent the student from falling behind in class.
- A strong correlation exists between the students academic success in school and their daily attendance.

Student Medication
Parents are encouraged to administer medication to their children before and/or after school hours. When a child must take any medication during school hours and a parent cannot be at school to administer the medication, the parent must obtain a "Daily Medication Administration Record" form from the school. This signed written request is submitted along with the following:
- The original container with the label containing the name of the medication, dosage, time interval, and method of administration. Prescription medication containers must include the physician’s name and written instructions or prescription label.
Please do not send medication with your student. All medications (even nonprescription cough drops) must be kept in the school office unless special arrangements have been made.
Stay In The Loop With Teacher, School, And District
Salem-Keizer Public Schools is now using the ParentSquare platform for district, school and teacher communications, primarily with email, text and app notifications. ParentSquare automatically generates an account for each parent/guardian, using their preferred email address and phone number.
Download the app or log into the ParentSquare web portal using the contact email used for your child’s school.Monthly Meal Menu
Thanks to the USDA’s Seamless Summer Option, we will be able to feed all students breakfast and lunch at school for free this year.
Lunch Menus Food Services will not be printing lunch menus to send to the schools. They will post on each schools website, as well on the District website. They are having a hard time getting anything on a consistent basis and cannot depend on suppliers to have what is needed. The food chain/Supply and Demand is ever flexing.
