#SWThrowbackThursday
Happy Birthday, Spartans!
Happy Birthday to our Spartans who celebrated their birthdays while we’ve been away from school!
Thank you, SW Food Service Department!
Below, Mrs. Carson reads a thank you note from a member of Spartan Nation. Mrs. Carson joined Spartan Nation during the second semester as the Director of Food Services. She and her husband have two children and two grandchildren. Her family grew this year by welcoming a 142 pound puppy named Diesel! Diesel is a Cane Corso. Mrs. Carson joined Spartan Nation after being in the food service department for Center Grove schools since 2014. Mrs. Carson is extremely happy to be a part of Spartan Nation and looks forward to continuing to serve Spartan students, parents, and staff!

Dolly Parton's Imagination Library
Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is a free book gifting program that mails high-quality books to children from birth until their 5th birthday regardless of their family’s income. “The single most significant factor influencing a child’s early educational success is an introduction to books and being read to at home prior to beginning school,” states the National Commission on Reading.
Financial Donations made through the Blue River Community Foundation have allowed this wonderful program to be offered in our community! Each month, registered children who live in Southwestern’s school district will receive an age appropriate book in the mail, addressed to them, at no cost to the family. Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library has partnered with the American Printing House for the Blind, Inc. to make many wonderful books in the program available in braille and audio format for children who are blind or visually impaired in order for all children to benefit from these wonderful books.

A Note from the Nurse
New for the 2020 - 2021 school year, ALL students in preschool through 12th grade will be required to have 2 Hepatitis A vaccines. The Hepatitis A vaccination requires 2 shots in order to be considered compliant. These 2 shots must be given no sooner than 6 months apart.
For example, if at student receives the first Hepatitis A vaccination on February 1, 2020 the student cannot get the second vaccination until August 1, 2020 or after. Therefore, it is important that you get this series started as soon as possible.
If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Vise at rvise@swshelby.k12.in.us.
