Getting to Know Slavery
Slavery started in the United States because slaves could be traded for anything and Americans needed people who could work for them. Slave could have born into slavery, traded by other owners, and or kidnaped! Slaves had fears of being brutally beaten by slave owners, and losing there loved ones by being sold and traded. Slavery last for 244 year and the thirteenth amendment and civil basically ended the whole thing and freed million of slaves.
The Underground Railroad
The Underground Railroad was a very important part of slavery. Harriet Tubman was the main resource for getting slave through here. The Underground Railroad was a way for the slaves to escape their treatment, and there was house along the way were the slaves could sleep and eat.
Slaverys Musical Codes
Slaves Loved music! They listened to music for Hope, assistance on their journey, and they contained secret codes. They put these secret messages in there song so they could communicate with each other. They didn't want there owners finding out there escape plans or their thoughts. The songs purpose was to find their way out of the south and so they wouldn't give up on hope.
A Great Hero
Harriet Tubman was born into slavery and she was planning on being free and freeing other people. Once she had freed herself, over the year she freed over 300 people. She had made 19 trips to get the slaves and the white people who owned her would give $40,000 for her return. Urging the civil war Harriet was a Nurse, Spy, and a cook.
