Eastview High School Girls Varsity Basketball beat Farmington High School 53-44

Girls Varsity Basketball beats Farmington 53 - 44 to make it 4 in a row.

Eastview Boys Varsity Hockey vs. the Gentry Academy Stars – February 1, 2023

Eastview was looking to get back into the win column and played one of their most inspired games of the season Wednesday evening at the Apple Valley Sports Arena. This was a very crisply played fast paced game with just one penalty called in the entire game. Eastview opened the scoring just 30 seconds into the game when Logan Opgrand #2 scored on a shot from the point with assists going to Charlie Ortman #26 and Zach Wooten #9, making it 1-0 Lightning. The first period ended with Eastview up 1-0 and shots were 10-8 in favor of the Lightning. No scoring in the 2nd period, but the Stars were busy, outshooting Eastview 9-5. A good period for Lightning Goalie Jay Svaren #32. The Lightning book ended this one by scoring in the last minute of the game, an empty next goal by John Kisch #5, the lone assist to Charlie Ortman #26, making the final score 2-0 Eastview. Final shots were 26-23 in favor of the Stars. Goalie Jay Svaren #32 notched his 4th shout out of the season and the Lightning improved to 13-7. The lightning are back in action next Tuesday night at Rosemount, looking to avenge a loss from earlier in the season.

Eastview Boys Varsity Hockey vs. the Chaska Hawks – January 31, 2023

Eastview, winners of 5 of their last 6 games, looked to keep the momentum going. The Lightning opened the scoring in the 1st period at 3:49 on an even strength goal by Zach Wooten #9, assists to Kevin Woehler #24 and Caleb Nelson #20. Despite killing off two 5 on 3 power plays during the period, the Hawks tied the game on a break-away, a stretch pass to a streaking Hawk player fresh out of the penalty box while an Eastview power play (PP) was expiring. Shots in the 1st period were 9-9. The Hawks came out strong in the 2nd period, scoring twice in the first 6 minutes and taking a 3-1 lead, first on a snipe of goalie Jay Svaren #32 at 1:26 and again on another break-away on a blown defensive coverage at 5:50. Eastview cut the lead to 2-3 at 11:28 on the (PP) when Zach Wooten #9 scored with assists to Jordan Brothers #11 and Logan Opgrand #2. The Lightning tied the game 3-3 at 14:01 on an exciting shorthanded goal by Billy Downs #23, assists to John Kisch #5 and Graham Ellingson #22. Unfortunately, while trying to kill the third 5 on 3 PP for the Hawks, the game winning goal was scored at 14:55 of the 2nd period. Shots for the 2nd period were 13-10 for the Hawks. No scoring in the 3rd period, despite a furious rally by Eastview which saw then outshoot the Hawks 16-5, and 35-27 for the game. Final score 4-3 in favor of Chaska. The Lightning fall to 12-7 for the season. Eastview has no time to think about this one as they are back in action against Gentry Academy Wednesday evening at home.

JV SPORTS

Eastview High School Girls Junior Varsity Basketball beat Farmington High School 40-27

The JV Girls basketball team extended their undefeated streak by beating Farmington 40-27 last night. The team's record is now 16-0.

Eastview JV Boys Hockey

The Eastview JV Boys hockey team played an exciting game against Gentry on Wednesday. Ty Young was in net and faced 20 shots. Gentry got on the board first and had the only goal in the first period. The second period was scoreless despite Eastview’s flurry of shots. Michael Cherevatsky scored in the 3rd period to tie it up with assists from Kyle Benolken and Louis Rogers. The game went into an exciting overtime and ended in a tie. The Eastview Boys hockey team will face Rosemount next Tuesday in Rosemount. JV plays at 5pm.

District 196 Moving Forward with May 9 Bond Referendum Election: Two-Question Special Election Addresses District’s Facilities and Equipment Needs

District 196 School Board on Monday unanimously approved a resolution calling for a two-question bond referendum election on May 9, 2023, to address the district’s facilities and equipment needs for the next 10 years and beyond.

That was the recommendation of the administration and members of a Facilities and Equipment Steering Committee that conducted a comprehensive review of the district’s facilities and equipment needs over the last year and a half. The committee developed a facilities master plan and recommended the first phase of improvements to address needs in the areas of safety, security and supervision; space for growth, and providing students and families a more consistent experience in facilities across the district.

The proposed improvements were presented as preliminary recommendations at the Nov. 14 School Board meeting. They were then presented for public input during three nights of focus group dialogues in November, and online via a form on the district website. Learn more.
