"The Illusion Maker" Visits Davenport
On Tuesday, November 25th, Davenport students had the opportunity to see an environmental magic show provided by Egg Harbor Township. "The Illusion Maker" showed students how we can change our bad environmental habits into good habits, in about two weeks. Through magic and illusions, the students learned by reducing what we use, reusing what we can, and recycling, we can reduce how much we send to the landfill. "The Illusion Maker" also showed students how litter affects the environment, and is carried away by storm water runoff. Davenport students experienced a lot of fun and curiosity while learning what we can do to protect our planet!
Students Sample Traditional Thanksgiving Treats!
2nd and 3rd grade ELL students from Mrs. Angelucci and Mrs. Mullen's classes sampled some traditional Thanksgiving treats. This was a new experience for many of our students from different countries. They tried apple and pumpkin pie and later voted on their favorite. The results were very close, as apple pie had 15 votes and pumpkin scored 14. Overall, the whipped cream topping stole the show!
Character Education Assemblies
Mrs. Errickson and Ms. Caruso held their monthly Character Education assemblies where they announced the winners for November's word of the month, which was "citizenship." The counselors then presented December's word of the month, "Kindness." Students also had the chance to watch some of their classmates display what kindness means in the video below!
Community Pride
Annual K-1 Feast
On Tuesday, November 26th, the K-1 classes invited students' families in to share in a Thanksgiving feast with their students. The event was a good time for all, as well as a reminder of how thankful we are to have all of our wonderful students here with us!
Project Love Cards
The students at Davenport in Mrs. Pettit, Mr. Cohen, Ms. Garofalo and Mrs. Tuthill's classes have created over 250 cards to be sent to the troops who will be serving overseas during the holidays. The cards and some treats will be sent to active duty service members who are overseas through Project Love Cards, which was founded in 2009 by Robin McCauley in order to send some holiday cheer each year. Thank you to all of the students for their contributions!
