Woodland Park Academy

Back To School Newsletter 2022

Welcome Back! A Message from Mrs. Martin, Principal

Hello Woodand Park Academy Families!

Welcome to the 22-23 school year! We are so excited to have students back! At Woodland Park Academy we are partnering with families and providing diverse educational opportunities to inspire our children to change the world! As a community it is vital that we are all working together; parents, students, and staff, to accomplish this mission.

Woodland Park is happy to welcome you back to some new and exciting things! First, enjoy a ride down our freshly paved parking lot! Next, we are so lucky to welcome a few new staff members to our amazing team! Check out their profiles below!

This year, all parents will need to update their student's information through ParentVue in Synergy electronically. After updates, this app will allow you to access your child's attendance, grades, and schedule, and will also keep the most important information about your child updated.

We look forward to seeing you at the Pop In for Popsicles event on August 24 between 5-7 pm. Plan to "pop in" to see your child's classroom and meet the teacher. Then head to the gym for a popsicle, dress code swap, and visit some tables to learn more about WPA and our community partners. There will be time to learn about our curriculum and the teacher's expectations at Curriculum Night, September 14, from 5-7 pm.

Once you finish reading this, please do 1 important thing; Register your child in ParentVUE! Registrations must be complete before the first day of school.

I look forward to partnering with you to provide high-quality education and environment for your child. We are going to have an amazing year!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Martin

2022-2023 Bus Routes

View the Bus Routes for 22-23. Click the tabs at the bottom to see 4 different routes/stops. Late Start Wednesday pick-up times are listed too.

Bus Parent Pro Tip

There are times when the bus is running behind or ahead of schedule. While they do their very best to run the route on schedule, things happen. Safety is the number one priority.

If your child is riding the MTA bus, download "LIFE360" to their phone so you know where they are and how close they are to their stop.

Please add MTA's dispatch number to your phone 810-695-8917. This number is helpful to have if your child's bus is running behind. The operator will need to know your student's bus route and stop name to assist you.

Dress Code Swap August 24

WPA families are welcome to "shop" dress code clothing during our Pop in for Popsicles Event on August 24th, 5-7 pm. If your family has gently worn, clean clothing to donate, bring it during the event or drop it off beforehand. Free!

Pick Up and Drop off Information

Pick up and Drop Off: Drop off begins at 7:45 am. Dismissal begins at 3:15. Buses are loaded and dismissed first. Car dismissal begins immediately afterward. Two lines will be formed around the parking lot. Staff will escort students out of and into vehicles. You will receive a car sign to keep in your vehicle with your child(ren)’s names. A staff member will use this sign to dismiss students from their classrooms. Please remain in your vehicle throughout the dismissal process.

Important Dismissal Safety: The office and your child’s teacher need to know how your child will be going home each day. If your child changes his or her normal dismissal plan, please inform the office and his/her teacher IN ADVANCE via phone call, signed note, and/or email. Your child’s safety is VERY important to us.

Student Life

2022-2023 Student Handbook

The student handbook includes Student Rights and Responsibilities, Policies & Procedures, Attendance, Grading, and Behavior Expectations.

No Cell Phone Policy

Phones have become an integral part of everyday life. Some of us may be considered "addicted" to our phones! Social media issues can impact the mental and social well-being and order of the school day. At Woodland Park, our teachers will be offering in-person, excellent instruction and it is important that all students are engaged during the time they are in school.

Students may bring their phones to school however, they must be powered down throughout the school day (7:45-3:15 pm). Please support this policy by calling the office if you need to communicate with your child or get a message to them. Students not following this policy will be required to turn phones into the office daily among other consequences.

Middle School Backpacks

This year, students will not be carrying backpacks from one class to another. Students that travel between classes will leave their backpacks in their locker and take their class material from one class to another. Teachers will ensure they have their belongings when leaving class.

Food Service

We are pleased to inform you that Woodland Park Academy will be participating in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) as part of the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs for the School Year 2021-2022.

The GREAT NEWS is that ALL students enrolled at our school can receive a healthy breakfast and lunch at NO CHARGE to your household each day.

In place of the Free and Reduced-Price Meal Application, we still need your household to fill out and sign the Household Information Report. This report is critical in determining the amount of money that our school receives from a variety of State and Federal supplemental programs.
